ok guys, here’s the deal…this past weekend, I installed my header finallly…
god i love it…but since then, my shifter seems like it is hitting something, like while its in gear, esp. 2nd gear at high rpm, and in 4th gear when just cruising at normal rpm’s…it seems like the shifter it just hitting something, but it kinda hits it hard…like if i lift up on the shifter, it’ll stop the noise, so what am i hitting? exhaust maybe? thing is, the shifter isnt heating up if its the exhaust… fill me in guys, thanks

well, the reason for me posting this is…this doesnt sound like the “normal” shifter rattling, or buzzing…this seams much worse, it actually feels as if the shifter is banging on something HARD…cuz i’ve had like the exhaust hitting the heat shields, and that would make noise, that is not the case here, i think this is something much different…and i’m trying to see if ppl know what i mean, and if others have ever had this exact problem…for some reason it happened after my header install…so i’m unsure as to what it could be…maybe its the same situation as you B R…but i dont know…
i just do not understand how the install of my header affected my shifter banging…the shifter is further down past the header, and past the cat…
BTW… what does “ARCHIVE THIS” mean or entail? is there some kinda archive? if so, how do i get to it, etc…i’ve been meaning to ask that for awhile…
I know the problem that you are talking about and that is one of the things that I had to fix too. What happens is when you put on an aftermarket header sometimes it doesnt sit in the same postion as the stock one. Some headers raise the exhaust piping and that is what sounds like is going on in your case. Since it attaches to the cat higher up it in essence raises the rest of the exhaust with it causing it to rub. Mine was so bad at one point that it made shifting hard.
By writing “archive this” I was just telling the moderator to not let it drop off the boards since it is useful information that people can use all the time. If a post goes for 10 days without a reply it drops off the boards…

BR - ok, thanks for the reply…i guess thats what it is…what you had…do you have pics of exactly WHERE you got that cut out piece from your shift linkage? like when i go under the car to look, what exactly to look for…and where exactly i need to cut off…thanks
I dont have any pics of it attached to the linkage, sorry. It is pretty self explanatory though. You will see what it is when you get under there.
I also took off my catalytic converter heat shield to give more clearance too, you might want to try that too.

yea i took off the cat heat shield when i did the header…
I guess i’ll have to get under there and take a look at it, and what its hitting, but how do i know HOW MUCH to take/cut off of the linkage? whats it made out of (the part you cut off)? plastic? metal? lemme know
thanks

That is all you can do. Just get under there and find out what is rubbing and find out what you need to do to rectify the problem from there on out.
The linkage is made out of metal… If it does come down to you having to take off some of the linkage you might as well take it all off like I did, that way you dont have to worry about it ever again.
