I’ve searched but no answer, so please don’t flame.
I’m about to buy some used Skunk 2 Lowering Springs for 50$ cause the H&R sports arent workin for me and was wondering if Skunk 2 makes good springs(not coilovers), and if its a good drop??(pics would be nice)… Please help me out, and ive searched and found nothing.
Have you checked the skunk2 website for specs on them??
I dont know anyone with their lowering springs because they are still a pretty new item. I have the skunk2 coilovers (you saw my teg at the last Seattle meet) and I really like the way that they ride with the koni yellows.
If you can get me some specs on them like how much drop they give and the spring rates then I can give you some more input.
Thanks for the input, i’ve decided to ditch my H&R Sports and get Skunk2 Coilovers instead(like you said before at the meet, they are kind of a high drop), how much did you get yours for?? you wouldnt no anyone that would help with an install would you??? i dont have access to a spring compressor, and a shop quoted me $120 for an install which i dont want to pay for. thanks
I paid $230 shipped for mine, but that was from a member. They were new at the time.
I do installs, swaps, maintenance, etc. on the side out of my garage. I do a LOT of work for the local members. I did Ryans (soon2bvtec) b17 rebuild and swap along with tons of other work for members such as Leif (leifintegra), Ty (Ty), Tony (92GSR), Rob (dumbluck), Thanh (Asian Buddha), etc. The list goes on and on.
I can get you hooked up for MUCH cheaper than a shop will. If your interested in me doing some work for you just hit me up at mynameisbr1@attbi.com.
That would be the shiet if you helped me out with an install, im gettin these in about a couple weeks for 280 shipped, Thats coo you do other work for members, so how much would you charge me? i’ll e mail you for sure. again thanks a lot for the help!!!
For suspension installs (springs and/or dampers) I usually go $50. The skunk2 coils are a bitch to install compared to every other coilover/spring that I have installed but I still charge the same amount.
That will save you an easy $70 + tax from a shop, and you can take comfort in the knowledge that I torque EVERYTHING to spec and am not happy with my work until the owner of the car is.
We should set up a day and time!! i’ll be more than happy to pay you $50, i guess being a g2ic member has its benefits:D just give me your number and location so we could set up a day and time. thanks
btw, why are the skunk2s so hard to install?? jus curious
The skunk2’s are harder to install than most other springs because they use rubber o-rings to hold the sleeve in place on the shock body. Kinda weird, but they might have changed their design since I put mine on to something similar to the GC’s. I wont know until I see what you get though.
The GC’s use a foam bad that goes all the way through the inside of the sleeve to hold it in place which IMO is a MUCH better method, at least a much easier one as far as installs go.
Send me an email and I will give you my number and we can work out a day to do this.
I have to do a head gasket in a kia :vomit: sometime this week, as long as the girl gets it over here but anytime after that will work for me. We will work it out.
I feel you on those o rings! They do tend to want to slide when you are installing them!
You might want to this method of installing the o rings and see if it helps.
First - slide the o rings onto the shock body and position where you want them
Second - After they are all in place, wrap the entire shock body and the o rings with duck tape.
Third - Slide the sleeve over the shock body and voila!!!. You’ve just made it easier to install, and just eliminated the chance of the o rings sliding up or down the shock during driving which will sometimes cause the sleeve to rattle around/against the shock body.
When I did my (the wife’s car now), I wrapped enough tape on the shock body until it was a tight fir when I slid the sleeve. It really helps out too when it time to adjust them so the sleeve doesn’t rotate-just the perch/collar
I have been running my skunk2 coils for almost 2 years now and I have never had a problem with the o-rings sliding out from the collar. My suspension has been maintanence free for almost 2 years in exception of the occasional silicone spraying of the camber kits (Ingalls polyurethane).
When I install them I actually use the way that they slide to help me with the install. It is much easier if you know what the o-ring is going to do when installing the sleeves.
Hey Jason, this is what I did when I installed my skunk2…like kalbo_1 did, I positioned the O rings on the shock body so its spread out evenly so the coilover tread doesnt have a chance of shaking, then I just roll some E-tape around the Orings so they dont slide downward when I slip the threaded collar on and done…fits snug and tight!

I just might have to try that on this install and see how it goes. Sounds a little faster than the other way to install them.
