smoke coming from steering colum. blinker problem:(

Well, its not in the Teg, but in the 92 Accord EX I have till May while my friend is in Maui. On my way back from the holidaze as I was passing cars on the freeway it never sounded like the blinkers were going off, then after about an hour of this I start smelling smoke and the blinkers just go on in hazzard mode. Then I see where the smoke is coming from…right out the steering colum at the base of the turn signal arm. I pulled over and pulled the fuse out and the smoke stopped. Hazzards still work, so its not the flasher.

My question is, are the blinker assemblies for the Hondas all the same? Seems like every Honda Ive been in had the lights and blinkers in the same switch, in the same spot, with the same arm. Ive never heard of this switch going out before either. I asked this same question in a 4th gen Accord forum and got zero responce, so I might have a fluke of a deal here. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

hey shenriemthis is ryan from sacramento ! do you think its possible that maybe you have some kinda of lose wires… maybe they touched making them smoke! thats all i could think of sounds wierd! good luck hey see you in may!

I’m pretty sure all Hondas have the combo switches in the exact same spot and layout. Headlights/highbeams/turn signals on the left side. At least it was that way on our four Accords, one Civic and my car.

Ryan, I dont think thats the ticket cause it slowly got worse, but I guess we will see when I get it apart. And yes, Ill be there in May;)

ryuyszh, Im hoping your right cause I have an extra in the garage from a wrecked Teg that I was hoping to use. Just crossing fingers that they bolt up the same.

Thanks for the replies guys, I got no replies whatsoever at the Accord forum. I love this place:D
