I actually knew about the east coast and their innovations. The topic honestly has never come up, otherwise I would’ve given credit where it was definately due. Here is the issue and why your comment, apparently toward me, shows how you’re not understanding my stance, so I will clarify.
I don’t like Super Street either, nor RJ DeVera. I posted a while back in an “I’m an OG hear me roar” thread about how there was life BEFORE and OTHER than Super Street, since an issue was put up as if it was the internet tuning bible. I realize there was racing and innovation other than what was published back then. Sorry if I wasn’t clear or you couldn’t interpret that from what I said, but I’m saying it here.
Unfortunately, the US was centered on a Honda-tuned racing world back then, and NONE of the PR rotary guys or east coast guys got enough credit if they weren’t in Hondas. Remember “The ANT”? That car was and still is one of my favorites, carbuerated 3TC turbo Starlet that ran 9s… now THAT is something that is great and taught us all a bit about what could be done with thinking outside the box.
JDM is most definately the new rice. Again, rather than posting every time I’ve said that, I’ll say it here AGAIN. My car is built and modified with almost 100% Japan-only parts, but it is not JDM and neither am I. I prefer Japanese parts to American ones, but I am not so absorbed in my JDMness that I would refuse to put a well made functional part on my car because its made in the US. I’m sure this is what you think and have convinced yourself of, but once again, I’m stating it here clearly. I have standards and beliefs in what I do and spend money on, and it just so happens that 95% of the time Japan-only parts give me what I want. Comptech happens to make some good stuff for my CL9, so I buy their stuff too. The sky must be falling, because the JDM nazi has bought a USDM part.
I do believe that our argument went from opinions to JDM, which it never really was with me. I was frustrated with the tendency toward the general populace to nit pick at the smallest imperfections or taste differences, and overlook the obviousness of certain projects. Your opinion matters, as much as mine does, but when I hear “that bolt is off 13 mm” twenty times and nobody is like, “cool, a 270 hp Civic with a digital cluster”, it makes me lose faith that people even know what they’re looking at anymore. So you don’t like the paint scheme, thats fine, but what about everything else that’s 100% functional or just plain cool? Nobody once has even mentioned it. IT IS a matter of taste and opinion, but how the JDM fag trend got brought into the argument I don’t know. I wasn’t arguing about JDM this or that in any way, just that the car had so many cool things to it that nobody seemed to care or notice.
Honestly, I’ve talked to all of my “OG” friends and they keep telling me to give you and G2IC another chance… as if this place even cares or wants me back. Its not like anyone noticed I was gone or misses me. I’m just a screen name, just another online asshole. I figure I’ve been around long enough to be able to help people out, and maybe I enjoy being entertained by some stupid news story Rob posts or some noob question that I asked back in '95 and got flamed for on hybrids.jp. Its safe to say more people were happy I left than were sad, so why bother trying to help people that don’t give a shit about me or my advice or opinion? I know you don’t care about what I say any longer than it takes you to type out your reply, nor do I, so why bother wasting time with each other? To prove you’re the greatest off topic post whore ever? To prove I’m the biggest JDM asshole ever to press on a keyboard? You have stuff going on in your life I’ve heard, so I realize I’m nobody to you or anyone else in this internet world, and neither are you to me. If I saw you, we’d probably be cool to each other since there’s really no reason not to. I make myself known as Daniel, in the real world, not as digitalHorizon, in the e-tuner world. Once I realized that, I stopped posting and arguing and being anal. Just part of growing up for me.
The meet actually made me realize that in real life, people from a website can be cool people. I can actually meet and make friends that mean something, that I enjoy being around. Hanging out with Kevin was good times, I had lots of fun, and got to make a friend that I would never have. Every meet, at the very least is a chance for all of us close friends to get together, and meet some new G2IC guys while we’re doing it. Thank Kevin and Vern and all of the other SoCal (and NorCal and LV) G2IC guys for getting me to come back, at least for this one thread.

Dude you’re joking around and put that we were gay lovers. I also was joking around when I posted that JDM is the new rice. I like to give you a little shit now and then I’ll admit. But again I was fucking around. its very hard to tell someones tone or inflection and often times its makes people think I’m an asshole. Do I give a shit what anyone here or anywhere else thinks about me? I mean if they made a movie about my life the whole world would jerk off to it.
But just to clear this up once and for all:

I lived in essex county NJ 5 mins outside of Newark NJ which has one of the highest autotheft rates in NJ. Everyday I thought “this is going to be the day I wake up and my car is gone” My insurance company decided the same thing and institued ANAL rape as my policy. Nearly ever penny of the pay checks i made working 40 hours a week (while going to highschool and maintaining a 3.571 GPA ) went to cover to cost of LIABILITY only insurance on my 1990 integra (in 99) which came to almost $5k a year. No tickets no points nothing. What ever was left went to keep the integra running when it needed something.
I had the gout or what doctors thought was the gout in my left ankel and could not operate a car with a manual tranmission. Sure there were options for making an automatic quick but none of these fit into my budget.
i’ve purchased 2 wrecked integras , 3 wrecked crx’s , 2 wrecked 2nd gen eclipses and parted them out. While its no where near as glamourous as being an “engine builder” or “tuner” there is a certain satisfaction in helping someone find a part , or get their car running by selling them a perfectly working used part cheaper than they could get it locally. But again that doesnt win car shows.
Going into what you said about racing. When you started with Mr. Burns about “Do you remember what Bergenholtz ordered every tuesday at Taco Bell??” It made me think of some insane east coast specific questions I could ask you. Like what color was the “Pepe Loco” car when it used to run on Morris ave in elizabeth, NJ? Or where did Gary Gardella get his engines?? Or what did Fai Young’s civic run at the first import event at englishtown? What it really comes down to is that a generation or 2 ago my grandmother and father were notorious drag and street racers but never got any credit becuase much like today magazines made it seem as if southern California was the center of the racing world. My grandmothers only claim to fame ended up being that she dumped a famous stock car driver after dating him through much of highschool and her early college years. I do remember the “ant” hell of a car.
Back to car shows. It doesnt impress me. Honestly. A Righthand drive civic with a digital dash and the JDM cookie cutter paint scheme and wheels does not impress me one bit. I’m tired of going to car shows and seeing car after car after car that ALL LOOK THE SAME. You’ve seen them once you’ve seen them all. If that bothers you that I’m not jerking off to the car or that I dont appreciate the fact that someone maxed out their credit cards to make their car look like everyone elses or just slightly different i appologize. Wait no I dont. Some people dont like snickers bars or pepsi. When they tell me they dont like pepsi I dont give them shit about it and tell them that they should be impressed that someone can combine water , phosporic acid , yellow 5, corn syrup (among a few other things) and make a beverage that EVERYONE should look at and instantly find amazing. It called an opinion. I have one and you have one and they differ leave it at that. i’m not going to nitpick about a bolt being off 1 mm or something like that I’m going to tell you that in my OPINION the overall package SUCKS (again in my opinion).

My 1990 automatic integra GS did have one of those JDM HKS intakes (big green breast implant looking filter on a a short black plastic arm. Real deal ordered it from options auto salon) and 98 GS-R suspension. I also used to check out Japandy’s items for sale on ebay many years ago.
