i felt my car was faster on 12k front and 10k rear now that i am 8k and 8k i dont really like it
keed the info coming i love the help, if i stick with the 9.5 front what wound u put in the back mabe some thing like 7k
I’m running 8" length 2.5" diameter hypercoil springs in the front, 450#, and ground control springs in the rear 330#, so about 8k/6k. The rates are very conservative, so my tokico illuminas should last a while. I also street drive it, and drive up to 4 hours to the farthest track, so ride quality is a consideration. The car handles pretty well!
updated.
I am still getting a lot of body roll, even with the stock front bar and progress 22mm rear bar, so i’m upping the rates (again) to 10k/8k. We’ll see how the body roll changes, and whether the illuminas handle the rates decently…
I’d definitely look at an upgraded front sway bar… I’m running an ST front and Progress rear and really like the combo.
I have 10k/8k with my GC’s. Think about running Koni Yellows, it makes a huge difference. I would have even been willing to try 12k/10k if I didn’t drive it on the street. I absolutely love the 10k/8k setup though.
Agree with jdecks23. I’ve just switched to 10k / 8k on the tokico illuminas. Ride on the street is tollerable. Track driving is great; much less body roll, greater responsiveness. The Tokicos are happy running 3F and 4R damper settings with these springs. Running a 7" length 550# front spring and 8" length 450# rear spring from Hypercoils.
Hey Colin, you think the front bar is a worthwhile addition?
I`m running 650f-750r with a 32mm asr rear bar using the stock front bar and it feels about right to me.
I don’t remember feeling a huge difference when I put on the front ST bar vs the stock one. But then again I stepped up from stock to the EF ST front then to the DA ST front, so it was sorta small increases over time. I don’t see there being any downside to you upgrading the front bar. Some people like to run a small front bar, or no front bar because they think it helps achieve oversteer. Personally I’m of the mindset that you should use sway bars for body roll and then tackle under/oversteer with other tweaks. And in that case I’d recommend upgrading the front bar (although it’s likely a small upgrade, so is it the best place to put your $$?) and if needed tweak your suspension, tire pressure, or spring rates if you end up with a little more understeer than you’re used to.
Your setup is much more aggressive than mine, and if that’s comfortable for you then you’re likely a more experienced driver than myself. I am thinking though that it’s about time for me to switch up to a more aggressive setup as well. In particular try an even spring rate front to back, or a stiffer spring in the rear, as well as upgrade to the ASR brace w/ ITR sway bar.
I wouldn’t consider myself experienced by any stretch of mind. I’m comfortable with it most of the time but probably not very quick or taking full advantage of the setup. I do like that a can get the nose to point wherever i need in most turns but its tricky to get it turned in neatly while overlapping brake. Totally neutral bordering oversteer at higher speed. Barely needs to be steered around sweepers and light acceleration starting from turn in is sometimes needed to keep the back end in check.
I’ve also been thinking the rear bar might be less effective that the size would suggest seeing as how it attaches to the stock location on the rlca and some of its force is wasted on twisting the rlca instead of transferring. Diminishing returns the larger the bar is what i think i’m getting at?
Thanks for the insight, I’ll explore the free adjustments first.
