Stop gap for trannys?

Okay here is my dilema, and let me start by saying I have searched and read through MANY posts but have found no answer.

I am looking at building a motor… not sure if it will end up FI, but will probably be NA.

I need to choice a transmission. I have heard of two many problems with just a straight B16A tranny swap… I don’t want to be at 6K+ RPM cruising at 70mpg on the highway…

What kind of stop gaps or other options do I have? are there other trannies not geared as hort as the B16A but not as high as the B18A? This is on a 1991 LS if that matters…

Thanks for the help!
Casey

70MPG is excellent IMO, 70MPH on the otherhand . . .

If you’re going with a VTEC swap then look for a B16A or GSR trans. and consider throwing in an LS 5th gear, that’s what I did. If you do manage to find a 92-93 GSR trans. you could also use the 5th gear from a '94+ GSR, but it won’t fit in the B16A cable transmissions.
