I am completly out of ideas on this one. For the last 4 months or so my car has been making a weird tinging noise. Sounds kinda like metal cans hiting eatch other really fast. Im completly stumped. I have no heat shields under my car. I trimmed the crossbar so it wouldnt even get near the header. The only thing i think it could be is the dust or heat shields that are hooked onto the brake calipers.
The noise comes when i turn at slow speeds.
If i rev to 2500 RPMs not moving.
And when i down shift down coming to a stop
It will go away pretty fast if i hit my brakes.
Any help would be good. Im thinking about removing those dust shields for a day and seing if that makes a difference. Dont know if its safe since i live in a dusty climate. But if anyone else has had this problem before then plz speak up!
-Edit- You can move this to were ever, but i think this is the correct place cause its all pretty much stock around my brakes.
I’d say this belongs in suspension, but we don’t know what is really going on quite yet so you are safe lol…
It’s also possible that it is the little metal brackets on your calipers that keep your pads away from your rotors when they are not in use. When the little flap on them pops out they just kind of sit there and rattle. I ended up taking mine out entirely, problem solved.
Take off your wheels and give these pieces a good once over with your hand to see if they feel loose.
Also could be right about the dust guards, the bolts on those can come loose pretty easy so it could be rattling. Check 'em out!
Mine made the same sound a few years ago. What happened was one of the rubber exhaust hangers came loose, and the bracket was clanging against the floor of the car. Check those hangers and the brackets to make sure they have enough clearance so the exhaust can move a little without anything banging around.
Ok thanks for the help. A week or so ago i felt the dust shields and they dont feel lose at all. I bent them a little so that they were not even close to touching. I may just price these at the dealership since i need to get a few things anyways.
I did put those little metal things in. I wish i wouldnt of they really serve no big purpose. I dont really want to tear into my brake again thou. unless i have to.
you know it could be my exhaust i have a HKS hi power on now and it has a little movement. I think im still using 100% stock hangers thou. Im kinda still thinking the header could still be touching the cross bar. (i think you know what one im talking about)
It showed up about the time i put energy inserts in, but i also switched rims and did a few other things that week to so idk. I did take the energy inserts out and i put filled ones in. I may have goten a little quiter but then again i may not hear it cause that mounts are noisey.
