May need to thicken the flat end of the piece a bit as well as try to make the bottom solid. Looks like it’s still relatively hollow based on pic 1. I think since you’re printing flat side down you should be able to increase your bottom layer count so the whole thing doesn’t have to be solid.

Haha yeah you read my mind on what needs to be done. I was going to enact the layering/infill mods yesterday but I had to help daughter with math.

I figured you already knew what you had to do since you’ve gotten to the point of printing ABS lol. I’m still in caveman-land printing PLA.

PLA works! I just don’t trust it with anything that is subjected to heat. I tried a PLA prototype for a rain gutter adapter at my house. It warped on itself 😛

It doesn’t do great with loads either though - I printed a hanging stand for an ornament and the hanger has slowly drooped to the countertop in room temp conditions lol

This has been reprinted. I’m waiting on new lock washer and screws to arrive before attempting to reinstall.

How do you take that locking washer off without destroying it??

I was able to “wobble” it off with pliers. I looked for additional methods to keep the mount on, but came up empty (besides actually making threads on the rod). I’m open to suggestions.

LOL so I just asked AI and got some options. Surprisingly helpful.

- Shaft collar with a set screw (kinda pricey though).
- C-Clips
- Snap rings

I don’t really know why that spring is there though. It seems like it serves a purpose but to me, it looks like it’s just a force between the locking washer and the mount. Maybe there were problems with molding the mount so the spring was used to cover for any dimensions out of tolerance?

But in actuality, using any of those 3 would be better because the star washer forces you to “hammer” it on. It’s really difficult to do without damaging the visor itself.

that would be interesting to put threads on the tip and screw it off

I think that’s impossible due to the taper. :-/ But why taper it at all?

Interestingly, these exist and would be easy to print. It would just need a screw to bite into the material to keep it together. Probably a one-time use thing, but would be cheap too.

Amazon delivery driver stole my star lock washers yesterday.

Maybe this is a sign to use these shaft collars.

The new one is installed. I believe the spring is there to provide the resistance when you’re positioning the visor and also keeps it in whatever position you want (axially). Which makes me think there’s another “resistance spring” inside the visor.

Shaft collar modeled. Requires a self-tapping m2 screw. I think this with a rubber washer can probably work instead of the spring.

The starlock washers that were lost/stolen by Amazon driver was delivered. Go figure. I decided to try them out anyway in case this lock washer doesn’t work.

This happened this morning on the way to work. Apparently there’s a fatigue point here.
