Yeah they have a lot of glare on other drivers’ eyes. A guy on T-I sent me a link to some adapters that get rid of the glare. Might have to order them.
Yup that was me who posted that link. There was a guy who made his own glare guards on this site. It was made out of a quarter and something else I believe.
hmm…that lip looks great from the front, but looks out of place on angles. unless you find something to fill end the corners… personally, I think your car would look better without the lip…
either or, your car is still sexy
I hated it without the lip, but I’m going to the junkyard to find one that fits eventually. It’s not on the top of my list right now. And thanks!
Hey guys, been a while. Not any new updates really, been slacking off.
Today we got up to put my alarm in my car. When I was passing by the driver side front wheel I saw a bunch of black stuff dripping from it. Sure enough the boot on that joint (CV joint?) ripped open and got oil everywhere. It wasn’t making any noise last night when I drove it as far as I could tell. Is there any way to replace the boot and not the whole thing?
Also sometimes there is a noise when decelerating. I think it’s coming from the front on the passenger side. Could this be a wheel bearing? It’s kinda like a creaking/clicking noise that’s consistent with the wheel’s speed.
Thanks!
Alright well I went ahead and did the whole thing. Took me about 3 hours, lol. I accidentally mixed up the steps, like taking off the shock fork before putting the jack on the ball joint to pop it loose. But I finally got it done. Not very hard now that I know how to do it. Although I did end up buying a reman. axle [:(] . They didn’t have an OEM ones so they would have had to order it and I needed to use my car. It’s a lifetime warranty and I could use the practice so I’m not that worried about it. No noises from it so that’s good. Any important steps or tips when putting it back together? I greased the spindles like your supposed to and axle nut was torqued to proper 134 ft/lb torque. Any other things I should check?
Oh, and I love my new alarm and remote start! [:D]
*More Bad News *
Today I was driving home after dropping my brother off at his guitar lesson. I was on sort of a backroad starting to go up a hill hill when my car slowly started to die. The RPMs dropped at a steady rate and when I hit the gas it sounded like it was bogging down. When I turned the key to start it wouldn’t. Found out (from my dad) that this means the alternator is bad and it sucked my battery dry until the battery died too. More money… And when I checked where the alternator was located I died a little on this inside, haha. This one is gonna suck to take out.
I think my dad said he almost got the alternator out. He’s having trouble getting to the 3rd bolt, not sure where. I was busy taking my brother to church and picking up my contacts while he was doing that. Pulled the passenger side axle, figured why not replace it before it goes bad too. New alternator probably at the end of the week. Also getting new ball joints and front and rear camber kit.
Also, does anyone know a different alternator I can use? Preferably something with a higher output. I know I could buy a high-output one, but I was wondering if there was one I could use out of a different car or something, thanks!
Those are some updates! Plus this one-
Got the alternator out! Had to pull the driver side axle again to get it out from the bottom, but it’s out none the less. New alternator and axle tomorrow!
To answer your question earlier, yes you can buy boot rebuild kits for axles. I hope you didn’t get autozone brand, or you will regret that. I only use OEM and Napa. Also, you can remove the alternator from the top if you remove the master cylinder. But since the axle drop is fresh in your mind it was probably easier
I know it’s common to have alternators go out on our cars, but are you SURE yours is bad? Did you check the voltage? Was it making a very high pitched whining or howling noise?
why do you need a higher output alternator?
I did notice noise sometimes, but not all the time. But I don’t know how else you would explain my car dying like that. I had 3/4 tank of gas and it will run if I charge the battery but only for a little while. And I’m not 100% why we are looking for a high output, my dad is the one who said to find one. I’ve noticed that a lot of the lights dim whenever another one is on. Like my check engine light (it’s the EGR valve still, I haven’t gotten around to bypassing it yet) dims whenever my blinkers are on. It’s not a ton dimmer, but still noticeable. Would a higher output alternator take care of these problems?
And yes bacardi, my dad checked the voltage on it before removing!
what brand and kind of hids do you have installed? How are they holding up? Could you post a link to that glare guard write up with the quarters?
no need to pull the axle out to drop the alternator. Just unbolt the bracket for the intermediate shaft and it should drop down no problem.
I’d MUCH rather do that than remove the axle or the master cylinder…
ddmtuning.com, I got the Hi/Lo 5000k HID. They work fine still. They did dim a little but hardly any. Just had to break them in. They are still super bright. I didn’t have a link for a glare guard write-up with quarters, I was just going to order these.

Pulling the axle is no big deal, it’s pretty easy. Now we are replacing the lower ball joints, those are a pain.
True, but would you rather:
Remove the wheel
Unbolt the shock fork
Pop out the ball joint
Pull the knuckle out
Pull out the axle
Then finally get the alternator out
(and put it all back together)
OR:
Undo 3 bolts on the intermediate shaft
turn the bracket down
Then yank out the alternator
Option 2 can be done all by hand as well… you’ll need an impact gun to take the axle out. Just sayin’ ya know?
Wow, awesome build. No corners cut!! Keep up with the updates. Looks MINT, I just ordered HID lights 6k looks like its very much worth it! Wish I had the money/patience to go through all that! lol
