Ok this what I saw when I removed the Relay. There was like creamy greyish stuff in where the relay connects with the harness… Anyone got anyideas of what that might be? Looks like it dripped down from the relay into where it connects to the harness. Could it be that stuff that they seal in electrical components with ?.
Ya, that’s a dielectric grease they use to protect the connections, it’s nothing to worry about, just make sure you make good contact with the connectors when you are probing them with a multimeter.
So the grease is supposed to be all up in the connection area?? man its messy in there… Im trying to clean it out but since its grease my attempts are useless especially in those small connector cracks :think:
ya, the grease is supposed to be all over the connector. Most of the connectors on our cars have grease in them if they don’t have o-rings. Have you tried checking to see if the fan is ok? The coolant temp switch is primarily what turns the relay on, but the ac switch can as well.
Fan works perfectly and I just replaced the relay… What part of the helms could I find the temprature switch thing you guys are talking about? thats the only thing I havent looked at yet. Also my ac compressor just kicked out so turning it on does diddly squat :bawl:
Another question how come all of the links that had the helms manuals dont work anymore?? I did a search and looked at all of the links and all say they are not found?? Anyone know where a live one is??? ALso that sensor i am acout to look for is the one that starts up the fan rerlay?? Thanx a bunch
K let me know if Im wrong about this. If a thermostat is stuck closed wouldnt driving increase the temprature at a faster rate due to no circulation??? When I drive the temp drops which I am assuming means that the thermostat is open its just my fans dont turn on at idle. I changed the Fan Relay also check all the fuses. It still over heats when at Idle. Someone says there is a sensor near the distributor that turns the fan on?? Im trying to look for the helms online manual but all the links that lead to them are not working. And yes I did a search and I cant find one that works. Does anyone know where it is and may know if it would cause that problem?
FYI: If anyone has an overheating problem that only occurs rarely (like myself) it helps to turn on the ac button but turn the temp to hot. Turning on the ac button allows the fans to kick on more frequently, at least on my integra when I do this I never overheat wheras if I left the ac off it would overheat. Most of the time I don’t even need to turn it to hot and it still cools down significantly.
Ok heres the thing about that. My Cooling fan dosent kick on due to wwhatever sensor before the relay is not working. The AC fan wont turn on due to my ac compressor just dies hence the secon fan wont turn on. But if I do turn on the heater it does cool down. No clue why. My question is what is that sensor that tells the Cooling fan to go on called? and where is it??
just fix the same problem two days ago MAV. new thermostat… I had just one replace a few months and it had apparenlty went bad. new STANTZ therm. fix my problem right up.
I’m having the same problem too. but my temp gage will go all the way to the right(past the H) in about a minute or two. The weird thing is that i don’t even have to start driving. I can just rev the car up to 3 grand for a second or two, then the temp gauge drops right back down to normal. then it will rise to the H in about a minute or so. I’m pretty sure that my engine isn’t overheating, cause i don’t see how the engine temp. can go from past the H, to normal operating temp. in about two seconds by revving the engine. Any suggestions?
Im having the same problem…so I’ll just replace my thermostat and see if that cures it…to install this, is it necassary to drain the radiator first or can I just jack up the car and replace it?..
your problem is 99% the therm. my car was doing the exact same thing (running on hot at idle) rev the engine and it cools (quickly). you don’t have to drain the coolant. it will get everywhere if you don’t. I went ahead and flushed the coolant system while I had it apart. WARNING: the bottom bolt on the thermostat housing is a BITCH to get to.
Ok heres the thing. My “Fans” Dont turn on. I dont think that has anything to do witht the Thermostat… When I turn on my heater it cools down so I am assuming since the heater can cool it down it means that there is no air flowing over the radiator while at idle at a stop light but there is flow. Correct me if Im wrong but wouldnt a stuck thermostat cause your car to overheat no matter what?? Hence no flow means no coolant being cooled off. Coolant that is trapped in the block would heat up beyond normal temps which inturn should kick my fans on. But like I said no matter how hot the engine gets my fans do not turn on. I bought a new relay and also check the fan motor. All is well. SO now my question is again how would a sticky thermostat have symptoms like this if my car cools down when driving and when heater is turned on?? Also like I said my fans dont turn on no matter how hot. I know there supposed to kick on when the temp starts to rise. Anyybody???:argh:
I have the same problem as you do now. But I think the source is bad ECT switch more than thermostate. I just order my ECT switch, I will let you know is this gonna fix it or not. Also you can try turn on the A/C BEFORE the temperature needle get to the midle of the gauge. If the car doesn’t overheat ( cause both fan is on), you have bad ECT switch or bad wires between ECT switch to the fan.
