What do you Yellow/Illumina users usually stick at? I’m running Tokico Illuminas w/ Sprint springs and am having trouble finding the right setting. I rode w/ 3 front 4 rear, a little bouncy. 4 front/4 rear, a little less bouncy, not optimal. Then 5 front/4 rear, and it rides like a dream. But will I damage my shock like this? Some advice would really be nice, I’d hate to mess my shocks up after only 1 month. Thanks.
I’m talkng out of inexperience with this stew, but I dont think there would be a choice for a setting that would lead to premature wear. It just makes sense to me  I dunno. I would think that a softer spring which would lead to a longer travel of the damper would cause more wear then stiffening the damper.

anyone else??

I agree about the setting. However, a higher spring rate would result in higher piston velocities and faster wear. Also, I want to note that there is no perfect shock setting. I depends on the application and desired result. I have Koni yellows and my setting varies. First, I want to note that they are only adjustable on rebound. For pure ride comfort, I turn them to all the way soft. To make the car rotate better, which, since I am constantly fighting understeer, is my choice for handling, I turned the fronts to firm, and left the rear at soft. This seems counter intuitive since you would think that the rear should be stiffer in order to rotate. That would be the case if the shocks adjusted for compression. However, since it is only rebound, the shocks should be set to dampen the unloading spring in the front and allow the rear to unload, resulting in better rotation of the car.
I’ve had my yellows in for about a month now. They’ve been on all the way soft just because I really enjoyed a smooth ride after replacing my blown shocks. Also I heard you were supposed to leave them on soft for a few hundred miles to break them in.
Stephen, you put the yellows in already?? And you’ve messed with the settings already? Have you gotten rid of any of the understeer?? Remind me of what springs you’re using? I am absolutely hating my h&r sports, the more I race with them the more I realize they are set up to induce understeer. I haven’t raced with the new yellows yet but I hope they’ll help.

Eric,
Yea, I ended up puting them in already. With about a grand of suspension stuff sitting on my floor, I couldn’t wait any longer. I have a few things left to do like cornerweight it, fix my camber, and get an alignment(in that order). I drive aboiut 50 miles or less a week so there isn’t a huge rush. I have managed to get rid of a good bit of the understeer, as well as make the car mroe responsive, especially in transients like a slalom, the way I decribed above. I am running Eibach 380lb/in front and 450 lb/in rear on GC coilover sleeves.
I don’t think I’m going to petit next weekend. But I hope that you went by the road atlanta booth while you were at NOPI. They were giving out $30 off coupons for petit.
Anyway, I’ll bet you’ll like those eibachs. 380lb/in front and 450 lb/in, that sounds a lot better than my h&r sports (340f/186r). What model are they or did you custom order them with the GC coilovers?

I’m doing volunteer work in the pits so I get in free anyway. We are also going to be showing off our FSAE car in one of the sponsor tents. I think I ended up paying 10 bucks total.
As for the springs, I just specified the spring rates I wanted when I ordered the coilover sleeves. So far I am pretty happy with them. Let me know if you guys want to get together sometime(kind of like commerce), and maybe we can try and dial out some of your understeer.

Where? Have you got a secret test course? :naughty:
Yeah I hear that X…before I heard about that break-in period (at first I thought about that too, and even read the instructions, didn’t see anything about it) my fronts were 5/5 and rears were 4/5, it was an EXCELLENT ride I love these shocks :inlove:
