tranny options

I’ve got a 90 teg and my tranny needs to be swapped out… what are my options… i know swapping in a hydro tranny would be hell, so what trannies can i use from what car? Also I hear that my clutch is different than all other b-series cars? is that true?

the 88-91 Main Shafts are 25 spline. the 92+ are 26.

I would suggest a tranny out of a 92-93 GSR or the JDM equivalant. That would be a VTEC YS1. Be very careful because all DA 92-93 trannys have the YS1 Code but they aren’t all VTEC trannys… and i would also suggest getting the 5th gear swapped.

I would use the 5th gear out of a G3 GSR

Part number

Main Shaft Gear # 23461-P80-V00
Counter Shaft Gear # 23581-P80-V00
Lock Nut # 90202-ph8-000

Those part numbers will only work on a 92+ tranny and will require a 92-93 Clutch kit

you can also use

a1
J1
S1
Y1

Trannies they would need different 5th gear part numbers and a 90-91 Clutch Kit

good info. only one correction though. Where it says “92-93” clutch kit it should say “92+ b series clutch” most likely you’ll be ordering a 92-93 one…but really all 92-93 b series clutches are the same thing, so if you found a deal on one for a 98 gsr or something…its the same EXACT clutch.

sorry man but that is incorrect info…

when they went hydro the change the release bearing…

make sure you get a 92-93 clutch kit.

that i didn’t know. but usually if you’re buying a clutch for a good deal its no longer the kit anyway. My point is that all 92+ b series clutch pressure plates and clutch disks are the same. notice how i didn’t say “kit” anyway.

actually now that i think of it… are you 100% sure you are correct about that bearing?

exedy organic clutch part numbers (courtesy www.clutchcityonline.com)
92-93: 08-800A
94-01: 08-800B

this would make you think that the clutches are different. However when i ordered a 92-93 GSR clutch from them i was sent a clutch with “08-800B” on the box (a 94+ clutch kit). The pressure plate, disk, flywheel bearing, and release bearing all fit perfectly.

Honda has a different part number for it. I guess i have never had them side by side.

Why risk it ??

just get a 92-93 and calll it a day.

The 92-up B-series pressure plates are the same/interchangeable. The Release/TO bearing although different on one end (the end that the hydraulic release arm snaps into) is the same where is pushes on the fingers. Colin is correct.

Thanks

Thanks A lot for the info guys!!! I appreciate it.

so you can use a 94+ kit on a 92-93 but you can’t use a 92-93 on a 94+ ?? because of the release bearing ??
