make I get you have oil on the halfshaft but you have to know if its motor oil or tranny fluid. I had a bad leak from the black breather chamber right above it and at first i thought it was the tranny fluid but it smelled like motor oil. Traced it to the breather chamber. Y dont really leak from the driver side seal since the half shaft doesnt really move around like the pasanger side axle.
Try to take off the intake and get in there with a flashlight and under to trace any stains or leaks.
lift the car and push the shft rod in by hand to see if the shiney end of the rod comes back with oil. if you see it fresh then smell it to ID it.

oh, I’ve never removed an intake. But I plan to replace it sometime soon, so i’ll check that out when i get the chance. I doubt im leaking from my engine though. Oil level has been same since before the leak. The tranny level hasn’t though. Dropped quite a bit when I checked it. Lucky i refilled but still leaking. I’ll keep you informed, when i check my car out this weekend. I’m gonna push the shift rod like you said. if it is the case, is it a seal or a bushing leaking? never diagnosed shift rod before.
looked at shift rod diagram. Missing the shift rod boot. hah. I’m going to buy 1 this week and slip it on there.
Called all the autostores, guess they have no oil seals or boot for the shfit rod for my year. Guess i’ll order it online or call up acura dealer. I found a nice DIY on this on http://civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=2679. looks pretty straightforward. I’ll get back to you guys when i completed the task. thanks
GL with the pin. That thing was a bitch to get out for me
What did you use to get it out?
A thin bolt that caught the pin, but didn’t touch around it, and a hammer. It may not move at first but just keep giving it solid blows. Don’t hit crazy hard, just solid. It may take a couple minutes to get it out
Thanks i’ll give it a shot. I’m thinking of doing this in the next few days. What was your entire procedure? Raise car, drain oil, then pin, then remove the rod?
An 8mm punch is the size of tool you need to remove the bitch pin.
Anyone know where I can order an oil seal for the shift rod? I can only find the boot, or is that boot used as the seal?
Acura Models | Acura Automotive Parts (2) doesn’t say theres a seal, so im assuming thats what they use as a seal

Im thinking that’s it.
thanks, yeah both parts are coming in tomorrow hopefully.
i’m sorry first off, i’m not one to knock on people trying to learn but our cars are front wheel drive which means they have no rear differentials or driveshafts like the picture you posted. I think you need to get a helms manual and read it cover to cover first before you start taking stuff apart underneath. just a friendly word of advice. Taking care of your own car is a great experience but can leave a very sour taste in your mouth when things go wrong and you end up having to pay a shop to fix a mistake.
little late, but i appreciate it. update below
Update:
I’ve been busy a couple weeks and haven’t had the time to really work on the car. Last week the oil seal and boot for the shift rod came in. The reason why it took so long is because I got a screwdriver part, that I tried to use as punch, stuck in the pin. Took me 3 days to get it out. Went to home depot and bought a punch and it worked fine. So the new parts are installed in. Haven’t seen any oil drops on the garage floor. Ill keep updated. Thanks everyone for the help
