turbo choice

is this a good sized turbo to use on a ls motor?

T3 turbo .54 a/r compressor .47 a/r turbine. w/ no shaft play?
a guy I know has it lying around and I may buy it…

also is it worth purchasing a turbos if they need new main seals? How hard are they to replace/expensive??

thanks

this is a god question i also wonder about what is the best turbo for the b16’s and for no tec the b18’s? Which is good for like the best overall for a nice constant power gain, dont ned something that wont spool till the cows come home, i was thinking 16g, 18g, or t3/t04e ws the main choice, how does everyone else feel?

i had one from a ford probe gt, i had a full 8psi from about 2300 rpm all the way to redline. seriously felt like a supercharger, that power was THAT linear. you can find em real cheap too, and with a custom manifold and some piping u can run boost all day, just dont turn em up to high, ive heard they are a time bomb above 13psi.

I can’t answer the 1st part, but as I’ve told people before, Turbo City in OC, CA wanted $300 for a standard T3 rebuild.

Turbo sizing is really dependent on the goal you have for your car- performance, driving preference, etc. If your just looking for something to get from stoplight to stoplight faster- a straight T3 will work fine. Most guys run the hybrid t3/t4- I do and lag is nill, but I have no basis for comparison.

Also, getting a used snail is really a crab shoot. Some guys are honest and sell prefectly working ones, while others just pon off their problems on unsuspecting folks. Personally, I would NOT buy a used snail. I mean junkyard buildups are cool, but the actual turbo is not the part to cut corners on. And if saving money is a concern- Turbo should not be your thing.
