Turbo for automatic application.

Ok…I have searched, read up howstuffworks, the guides on several sites (including this one), so please dont tell me to blow off. If you dont want to answer, dont.

I am going to turbo my automatic, and I am looking at different turbo’s. It’s likely that I will end up going with a hybrid garret, T3/4 or one of the usual suspects, but I really want some juice, as in over 300hp, and I want as little lag as possible. Because I will not be revving over 6500rpm I do not need a massive turbo, but I do not want something to small for this app. As far as a turbo alone, the other components will come later, I am buying piece by piece, what trubo should I look at?
1)Good response at low rpms, no need for power over 6500
2)As little trubo lag as possible
3)Cheap(yeah right, but It’s always nice to say that…dont show me the cheap/fast/reliable pyramid please)

Thanks for reads/responses,
Yuriy

Small turbo’s should be good for this application, like something in the T25 area? but it says they can spool quickly, but dont make much power. Is 300hp “much” power? a limited range of 3 or 3500 to 6800 doesnt need a massive turbo, just something that can make good boost…any ideas guys?

How about the Cheap, 300hp, no lag pyramid, have you seen that one? :giggle:

A T25 won’t get you to 300hp, read a little more

and a quote from a quick google search I did:
"The sizing of a Turbo to a vehicle is a compromise. Some people want max power while others want less lag. Increasing the flow of the engine increases wheel speed which affects turbo performance. " Source

A bigger T3 would probably be a good compremise to the goals you listed.

I would go with a small T3 maybe 42.48. Plus anything over 200-225hp will eat your torque converter for breakfast.

T3 Super 60 maybe?

I would agree with that.

Me too, it can’t looose!

Just for safety reasons. What if i just wanted to step up my game to a better torque converter? Performance wise? What and where can I look? I’ve read people are getting a higher stall speed for turbo. What is stall speed? I’m lost but yea.

You should do a search, this has been covered many times. Level10 is pretty much the only place with options and it will prolly end up costing more than converting to a 5-speed if your trying to save $$.

Yea, I am getting my tranny built by level 10, so I will have full control over it, and they said that with their build I’ll be safe between 3-400hp.
