Just noticed my waterpump making those all too familiar noises, you know, the swishy kinda-noise. Well, anyhow, it’s a 91 with 121K, not sure if it’s ever even been replaced before. I’m gonna start looking around for places to do it, and prices, but what I’m curious of is how long do you guys think it’ll take before it actually seizes up completely. I had it happen in my celica and it took about a month, give or take, for it to actually go, and there wasn’t any damage to the motor. If this happens in my teg, while I’m driving, what are the chances of it causing any damage? Also, anyone that has replaced their own waterpump & timing belt, how difficult is it? I mean, is it something I could do over a weekend? Or should I just take it to a shop, and how long do you think they would need it for? TIA for all your help, appreciate it.
I’m not 100% sure, but I highly doubt that it will seize and cause engine damage. The impeller side will definitely ground to a halt, and you’ll get overheating problems. As for the timing belt, I believe the main crankshaft pulley is the hardest to work on. You’ll need a strap that holds it in place with one hand, and a johnny bar (with appropriate socket) to loosen the pulley bolt. A car hoist is definitely beneficial compared to regular jack stands…however it doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
If you haven’t done so, I suggest downloading the Helms Manual for our Tegs, and purchase an Integra Haynes Manual.
You might want to also ask around to see if any G2IC member(s) are willing to help you out.
Good luck,
Oz
Your gonna need a hell of a lot more than a johnny bar to loosen the crank pulley bolt. Even my 450ft-lb impact gun didn’t stand a chance until I heated it up and gave it 15 minutes of patience.
Well, I found a good import shop to do the work. They have worked on cars of my friends and were recommended to me. They said $150 labor for the timing belt and water pump, I get the part that I want, since I more than likely will be going with factory parts. Does $150 sound like a fair rate? What has anyone else paid? Thanks.

Sounds reasonable. You might want to watch and learn something (if it’s possible).
Good luck,
