what tranny do I have

The differential in my 1990 Inegra GS was bad so I bought a used tranny. The problem I have is the used tranny has a slightly larger spline. The case is slightly different but by my inspection the few different casting areas wont matter. The number on my old tranny is S1-1015094… the used one is YS1-1016766. Does anyone know if the Y prefix signifies something different? What about the difference in the spline diamater - can I get a different clutch that will spline correctly and use it. Will this tranny even work? Appreciate any info. Bob

well, since this ys1 has the larger spline like you said, that means its a 92-93 tranny—which requires that you use a 92+ integra clutch–your 90-91 clutch just won’t fit.

there are 3 basic versions of the ys1 tranny:
-usdm non vtec (long gears)
-jdm vtec (short gears, some even came with lsd)
-usdm vtec (came in the 92-93 gsr, has short gears–but none have lsd)

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the only item I need to change is the clutch friction plate? Will the tranny output shaft fit into the pilot bushing in the crank? Also, is there any way to tell exactly which tranny it is by the entire number. Thanks Bob

i’m pretty sure that the only thing you need to change is the clutch disc, however the pressure plate may need to be replaced as well.

either way, i’d recommend replacing the whole clutch. When doing such a big job its usually worth it to just go ahead and replace the clutch, unless the one you have is brand new.

everything else should work, your axles and everything… but i’m not 100% sure, only about 99% sure. So, i’d confirm that.
