Hey I bought coilovers for my car and now I need struts so bad. I know struts are a big deal and you shouldnt go cheap on them, but in my case I cant go expensive. I saw kyb struts in summit for like 60-80$ a peice. Are those any good? Does anybody have a set of struts that were cheap and are satified with? I dont wanna really spend much more than 400 for the set. help me out please.
I have some blue tokicos on now, and I love them. I got them about 2 years ago with eibach sportlines installed out the door for $500 (I don’t know what they run now, but I think that I saaw them on sale locally recently.) and they still ride great to this day! ![]()
Well,
People in these boards are saying that KYB GR2s and Tokico Blues are only good till about 1.8" drop. At a 2" drop, people have reported a very harsh ride, even with just using non-adjustable springs. I have Tokicos up front, and KYBs at the rear both dropped at 1.5". Ride is better than stock. I’ll be getting 2" springs for the front next year and see how that goes. If you plan on really slamming your car, I suggest getting Koni, Tokico, or KYB adjustables.
Regards,
Oz
what about the Tokico 5- way adjustables? how are they
the drop on my car only is 1.8" so I guess I’m at the max for what he said, but I have to say that the ride isn’t that bad (though it isn’t any lexus.)
i sprung for kyb agx’s on eibach sportlines this time and ill never go back to non-adjustables. i think its definitely worth it, if not all around at least just the two fronts. i got my local auto shop to order it for 79 i think. i bet i could go even lower next time.
i still even have stock struts on the rear, i plan to put in the gr2’s.
Just wanted to say that struts don’t come on our car, it’s shocks, struts are on the new RSX,a nd maybe the older integ 1st gen but no struts come on our car

you lost me there. i thought a strut is by definition a shock inside a spring. the two pieces as a unit, instead of separated.
is it something to do with the upper control arm that makes you think otherwise? how is the rsx different?
struts are not used on our cars suspension, unequal arm, it is ether a shock, shock absorber or dampener. Struts are only used on strut type suspension such as McPherson Strut. Where the shock is inserted into carrier and acts as a control link in the suspension. First generation Integra’s use struts and torsion bar, Camero’s and 240SX and the new RSX use struts. We use shocks, shock absorbers or dampeners. (as said by one of the other members forgot who )
What if you don’t drop your car at all? Still good i assume?
yep. and after 10 years i bet your fronts are dying anyways
The only problem that I have heard about the Tokicos is that they leak.I don’t know if it’s the winters here in Toronto,Canada but most of my freinds have had problems with the adjustables.I put a set of Eibachs springs & Bilstein shocks 1.8 inch drop no problems. It’s been 3 years and still a very good ride.Had the ride set to oversteer initially almost killed myself so I adjusted the back end height a little and tweaked the air pressure, now I have neutral to understeer at the limit.Oh by the way make sure that you replace the springs and the shocks together all 4 corners.Do it once and do it right. It could really screw up the handling of your car if you don’t.
you can really control steering that much by air pressure? i read through that one chart but didnt think anything of it
edit; btw i only have stock alloys right now with bad camber
Yes the air pressure has a major impact on the handling dynamics of your car.Try it.When I go Slalom or Solo I racing you always crank up the psi in the fronts(only for racing)to a minimum of 65 psi. This reduces the understeer alot.Try it .We had a skid pad set up at one of our Solo events some guy brought a compressor and we spent a couple of hours just farting around with the pressures to see what difference it would make.Add about 5psi to the fronts.Set the rear tires to 35psi and 40psi up front. As a minimum you should have your tires at 35psi for best tire wear.IMHO
