which is the best??

sorry guys if someone already asked this ,but which is the best engine swap for my 91 gs?? i was thinking of a b18c gsr.

Who’s got the best looking car on g2ic?
It’s all about preferance dude. Find out what you want in your car then come back.

that questions is WAY too broad to be answered. You need to take so many things into consideration. Like:
-funds
-if you want vtec
-if you’re going turbo
-your mechanical abilities

go do some research. read the engine swap guide in the teg tips. read through the pages and pages of engine hybrid posts… get a good knowledge base of what is out there, and how much things cost. Then narrow down your selection to an engine or maybe two. Then come back and ask some specific questions… then someone will be able to help you.

Colin, you should be a moderator.
How many we got now? Two? We can use another one.

dds770 <----bandwidth hog…j/k. read the teg tips. The b18c’s use hydro tranny, which would require a conversion as well as a obd1 to non obd conversion if you have a 92-93 correct?

vtecteg: the hydro tranny and obd issues are not anything to worry about. read the guide for yourself and you’ll notice that dan explains how easy any b series vtec swap is (in the case of the b18c, you just sell the tranny, buy a vtec cable one. then just make sure youhave the proper obd dist, and injectors —which you can even pull off your stock engine—then get a vtec ecu).

whitey: yeah, i guess i’m around enough to be one huh! lol. If they asked me to i’d probably do it. But i probably don’t know enough computer stuff to be able to do a good job.

The obd is an issue if you live in CA because you have to transfer EVERYTHING that was part of the smog equipment to the g2.

trust me, i know all about the smog issues here in cali. In fact this summer i’ll be converting my 91 to obd1 in order to legally run my b17a. I think i might even be the reason there has been much of this cali smog ref and BAR sticker talk recently. Cause i’ve been doing a lot of research and question asking in the past 6-8 montsh.

in the case of cali residents a b18c1 swap is hardly worth doing… especially if you have a 90-91, but even if you have a 92-93 you probaly won’t get it to pass smog.

but dds700 isn’t in cali, so his rules are different, or maybe they don’t even have any.

Pretty much i’ve boiled it down to this:
-if you live in cali and want to pass smog legally you should either build the stock engine, or swap in a b17a. swapping hte b17 into a 92-93 and passing is a breeze, but much more difficult for 90-91’s.

I’m hoping to learn a lot when i do my swap. And i plan on documenting as much as possible to hopefully be able to help others who are considering a legal b17a swap in their 90-91 teg.
