who here has a leaking oil pan gasket

two fel pro gaskets. ill take a pic of it once i change it for the third time this week. except this time its not going to leak anymore.

My two cents: I had a pan leak a while back in 06. I cleaned the pan and mating surfaces installed an “OEM” gasket and used a 1/4 inch rachet. I didn’t torch them to specs and didn’t use ANY sealant. I tighted it nice and snug in sequence. I got all this info from an acura dealer.

No leaks on the garage floor. Pan is bone dry.

agreed. i also did not use a tq wrench and tightened it up by feel in the proper order. so far pan is good and i used a felpro. now i’m off to go replace the oil press. sender. i’ll update as i get it done. so far though pan is dry.

well bought an oem gasket today. installed it before work. tightened it down by hand using a 1/4 rachet. i also put a small line of silicone on the block side since thats what the serviceman told me to do. so far no leaks. i took pics of my felpro gasket and how it tore up. ill post them tonight when i get back from work.

well guys. quick update. stock oil press switch was totally gone. installed the new one and no more leaking. that and now when i start it the oil press light doesn’t stay on as long (my guess is the old one was on it’s way out the door) i’ll be monitoring for oil leaks but as of tonight no more oil leaks

heres the pics. you can see how it tore up in the middle and would squeeze out causing it to leak.oem gasket(black) compared to the fel pro gasket(blue)

Dang, this is a long one man job  But tanks to this post, I used the OEM with copper silicone on the pan side and after 50 miles, no more leaks. I was just surprised of the amount of things you must remove / loosen just to get the pan off (the Y section that connects to the header / cross member / the thingy of the auto trans that covers part of the converter, etc. I’m just glad that I wont have to do it again.
Best advise is to use OEM gasket and a razor blade cuz that Honda silicon is really stuck on the pan
peace

Ive always had a problem with minor oil seepage. always used OEM gaskets and torqued to the proper specs. never came out by the buckets so it never realy concerned me!!

Just to throw my $0.02 in… it may not be your oil pan at all. I was VERY frustrated because I couldn’t get mine to stop leaking (I went so far as to replace my pan because it looked like it had been used to jack the car up in its life)… after the final failure, I took it to my mechanic. He informed me that I installed everything perfectly and that the pan was not leaking. The front main seal was leaking and the oil was running out in a way that made it look like it came from no where else but the pan.

Take your lower timing belt cover off and see if there is oil in there before you spend any more frustration on the pan itself.

yes. oil leaking from just about anywhere on the engine will run down and work its way around the perimeter of the pan and gasket area, leaving the impression that it is the pan that’s leaking. always look to the highest points of signs of leakage as oil does not travel up, but down (obv)

oh man. that ford stuff smells of something awful. like diapers or something.
but it is by far the strongest sealant i have ever used. and you do not wanna go back in on a pan job on a 6.0l or 7.3 diesel, so you will use the best that there is.
ac delco makes a similar product for the duramax, but i find the ford stuff to be even better
