hey guys im almost done with a b16 swap non obd1 and i was wondering where is the knock sensor on the new engine and which plug ins on the v-tec part are which?
The knock sensor is above the oil filter it has 2 pins sticking out of it. For the pin outs on the ECU check out the teg tips section under engine.
thanks but i still need to know where the v-tec activator and spool connectors are on the engine i have the ecu wired
Both vtec wires you need to run are going to be by the VTEC selenoid. they’re on the head, at the end of the exhaust cam, in-front of the distributor. The black one is a neg. wire that doesn’t have to go to the ECU.
The knock sensor is located directly above the oil filter, however mine was just a plug w/ one wire.
the final wire plugs into the 2nd oxygen sensor. 4 total wires to be added to the ecu.

let me get this straight cuz I think I hooked up the knock sensor to the right plug, but I still get a code 23. The knock sensor is the plug above the oil filter and just below the third rail of the intake manifold. it is a brown/black plug (hard to tell under there) with two pins inside it, but the green plug that goes into it is only one wire? does that sound like the knock sensor? I’m working on a OBD1 B16 by the way.
Oh yeah, and when I found that plug, there was already something plugged into it. a green connection with two wires coming out of it. It was coming out of the origonal harness. Is that a redundant plug from my old motor that someone mistakenly hooked up?
I also have yet to connect the O2 sensor, could that have anything to do with the code 23? I don’t get a code 2; it seems to me I should get a code 2 also.

You have the knock sensor. It is a two pin connecter plug (green)
But, It only has one wire coming out of the connecter.
Code 23 is the knock sensor
It is only a one wire sensor. It is a red wire with a black strip
Finally! thank you! No ideas however on what that was with two wires that was plugged into my knock sensor?
I have no idea why there qwas a two wire connecter plugged in:confused:
