1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP4/6

Well not a real MP4/6 but this is a 1/12 scale Tamiya model, not sure if any one here is into model cars but I was years ago and I always wanted this kit way back then but could not afford it.

Well mid last year I acquired this kit and finally finished it this past weekend and wanted to share with my fellow Clublexus members.

Also while Building it I got the modeling bug again and ended up buying a Tamiya 1/12 Williams FW14B and 1/12 Tamiya Ferrari 641/2 which for any one that is into formula one like I am will know how iconic all three of these were. Especially the Williams FW14B as to this date is still considered the most technological F1 car ever made.

Very nice. its almost as if the body work ruins it! the detail is great you did a nice job

Agreed, well done.

that is great work!! did you use any of the aftermarket detail/kits or just what was in the tamiya?
I used to build 1/24, but I switched to 1:18 diecast for ‘instant gratification’

Wasn’t Tamiya prohibited from including the Marlboro sponsorship on the model? Aftermarket decal kit?

I wanted to use a detail kit but the kits that are out on the market for these three 1/12 F1 cars are insanely priced. They are in the neighborhood of $400-$600.

Only parts I purchase where.

Tabu Decal kit
RB motion F1 Valve Stems
Finisher’s McLaren MP4 paint set
Studio 27 NA fittings
various types of Carbon Fiber and Kevlar decals
and lots…lots of patience
besides that everything else was what came in the kit, along with all the pictures of the real MP4/6 that I googled for reference.

Correct this is an aftermarket decal kit made by Tabu.

Nicely done. Im into models myself, but i make miniature wooden contraptions out of cereal boxes and glue. Currently working on a guillotine. Youd be suprised how you can make cardboard look like real wood just by glueing and sanding

Pics?

Amazing job… i used to be into models myself, but now if they don’t have motors, servos, and radio gear in them i lose interest quickly…
