1 person gravity brake bleeding.

I have a basic understanding of this procedure, but I am not sure exactly how to do this. I think you just crack all the caliper bleed valves and let them drip. I am thinking that I should put tubes on the valves of at least 12 inches. So my questions are, how long should the tubes be, how long should it take if I want to replace all the fluid, and how much fluid? I have a full liter of fluid. I guess the last one is more of an academic question, but does anyone know the capacity of a non ABS brake system?

Just get a long hose so you can see it while pumping the brake. Every five pumps or so, refill the resevoir. Dont be shy, hit the pedal hard.

but be shy enough that you don’t bottom out the pedal

Thanks for the response, Yeah I know about not ruining the MC. How many times do you think I will have to pump it to completely push out the old fluid?

Gravity bleeding you don’t pump the brake pedal at all. Gravity does all the work. Open the fluid reservoir cap. Now you can either take a turkey baster and suck most of the fluid out of the reservoir and replace with new fluid, or you can let it gravity drain down and add new fluid as it goes down. Start with the rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, then driver. Get some clear tubing. Yeah 12" will work. You want it long enough to bend down and be below the caliper, and easier if it reaches into the drain pan or something. Attach your tube and crack open the bleeder. You should squeeze the piston back in to flush out that fluid. It will press in pretty easy with the bleeder cracked. After that left the gravity bleeding of the lines work. Fluid should start filling the tube and drain out. Refill reservoir as it goes down. Now this works better if the color of your brake fluid is different than what your using, so you can tell the new fluid reached the caliper. Once that line is bled clean then close the bleeder and remove the hose. Repeat to the next 3. One bottle of fluid should do, maybe another half bottle. If you get some speed bleeders you can pump bleed the brakes yourself and save yourself a lot of time. Gravity takes time. Give yourself at least 2 hours. Since you gotta jack up the car and remove the tires and all.
