Trying to remedy an awful squealing while turning.
Completed. Mechanic quotes me $400 labor only for this. No thanks.
Props to @b16da9 for the removal tip.
Now replacing power steering pump because mechanic said it’s leaking fluid. I might have damaged it while trying to diagnose the control arm squeak. Boo. I just rebuilt it too. Bought a remanufactured one and another rebuild kit for the oem one.
Redid mine with rebuild kit. wire-wheel and amazon sanding balls that attach to drill. Sandblast nut and pully, then grey oxide primer and black engine enamel paint.
Same process on all bolts, but with silver engine enamel paint. That’s been my process for all parts I’ve painted on the car for the longest time and it holds up very well.
This was before
Didn’t have it on the road this summer, been up on quickjacks since last November. Exhaust off, changing all mounts, painting every bolt I take off, Meagan racing header will go on.
Engine mess before
And after (so far)
Nuts, bolts, brackets…
I didn’t touch the car since the winter, just got back into it last week, where most of the nuts and bolts were refinished.
New bolts look so pretty!
Turns out the control arm was NOT the problem, as the squeak persists. I’m gonna have to look at the lower suspension points. It’s so hard to diagnose cuz the sound travels so easily.
Does it squeal when rolling or stopped, or both? And does it from lock to lock or only one direction?
It’s only when turning the wheel. Even a little. Sometimes when taking off from a stop (and going straight). And it’s not a squeak but more like metal-on-metal SNAPPING. It’s loud as hell and reverberates.
When it’s that loud it’s really hard to find out where it’s coming from.
I have a sound but it’s a sound I have usually when I’m breaking, but also can happen when accelerating. Mine is loud but not reverberating. It’s a single clang, like two pieces of sheet metal knocking each other, or the frame twisting. I have not found the source, but I believe it may be a honda/acura thing. My friend’s 89 Accord used to do it, way before I had my Integra. Your engine mounts are ok? Radius rod bushings?
Yours sounds like engine/transmission mount.
I have yet to check either of those (radius rods, etc.). I got sick this weekend
you may be right. It would sound like the plate between the transmission and the mount is flexing. That damn plate that that I can’t get the mount over, even when lowering the engine. And can’t get the last bolt that sits on the outside that is impossible to undo when the mount is still there.
I’m in the process of pulling off what ever I can so I can lower the engine enough. Radius rods, shifter arms, hoses…And clean everything while I’m at it.
