I got a choice from Rota Drags bronze & polish or Rota black slipstreams. What do you guys think? 15’s or 16’s?
most people here roll on 15 because it’s JDM
16 gives you so much more of a tire selection. I ride on 17s
Get what you like man, I like the ride quality of 15" and they look awesome if your slammed imo. I like the look of 16" if your near stock height, I just can’t deal with anything less than a 50 series tire in our width’s.
“most people here roll on 15 because it’s JDM”
White90, What does that mean ? it make’s no sense to me.
I roll 16 inch rota’s wrapped in 205-45-16 BFG’s. If you want a little bit better accerleration use a 205-40-16 b/c it has a smaller rolling diameter therefore shortening your gears.I used to run 40’s but switched to 45’s for more comfort and it’s the same rolling diameter as the stock 195-60-14 that came on my GS-R from the factory. But do what ever you like.I also used to run '99 GS-R blades with a 195-50-15, it had comfort and good accerleration but at times I thought they were to small. You could run 17’s with a 205-40-17 which also have about the same rolling diameter as factory, but 17’s tend to be heavy.
17’s
15’s!
16"s look to big on a DA IMO. i’d go with 15’s or 14’s
im going with the 15’s so i can slam my ride. thanks for your opinions.
id go with 16’s. only way i would go with 15s is if they are blades or some nice stock wheels
i used to run lightweight 17x7s - not enough compliance, bit heavy
i now run 15x6.5s - snappier acceleration, but too much bobbing & rolling during cornering on tyres without very stiff sidewalls (currently T1-R), and slightly less overall grip
I’d ideally run 15x7 with stiff tyres, but may end up going back up to 16x7 so the sidewall bending is less of an issue with whatever tyres I run
Here’s a pic comparing the two. They are both Drag wheels with polished lips. GM DR16’s in 16" and Gold DR21’s in 15":
I prefer 17’s if you have any sort of lip kit or body kit, but 16’s look the nicest on a stock, lowered ride. These are 17’s.
PERSONAL OPINION
which ever one looks better to you bud…

i think 16’s fill the gap more but i roll on 15’s
get 16s!!! much better tire selections even though 15s have the same tires basically, but id go with 16s now if i could
Well, i’d say 16’s are the best comprimise. Keep in mind, our cars are fairly small, and the style is great but not super modern. No offense guys, but 17’s can look a bit big for our cars, and MOST of them are heavy as hell. I run 15’s but Im a track guy, but I had 16’s on a '90 teg I had years ago, and they looked better than my 15’s do now.
hollar1211- what size tires you runnin with those 17s… the coupe i had a couple years ago had tenzo shu-4s (17s)… which got stolen… i love the way they looked on my coupe so i wanna get em for my sedan but i cant remember wat size tires i had.
^ 205/40/17 probably
cuz i have those rims too! in white and those are the size of the tires. what’s weird is that it seem like it’s stretched outwards to fit the rim. kinda like it’s too thin. maybe should run 215.
Running 17s or higher rim size is alot more rotating mass for the motor to turn. Thus robbing you of some power. I personally run 15" LS Mesh wheels. Something that isn’t stock but not flashy enough to draw attention.
epademiq- sorry for the late reply, they are falken ziex tires 205-40-17 and iogearz is right, they do look a little stretched, not too much, but it could also be the rim, (not a well known brand). If you can get a 215 maybe look into that, but the tires are fine for $45 a piece.
