15" subs???

Is it possible to put two 15 inch square solobaric subs in the trunk of a 91 2dr.?or any other 15". Or should I go with three 12 inch subs (probably JL’s) I still want to have room for the amps which I wanna make look all customly done with neons and everything. With a lil more room for extra stuff? :getsome:

Depends on what kind of boxes, subs , enclosure requirments, etc. Just go take meausrements of your trunk and go to www.rockfordfosgate.com. Than go to the volume calculator and calculate how much space you have. For the odd shapes, just make a series of cubes to fill in the odd spaces. Remember to calculate the port volume, bracing volume, and volume that the actual sub(s) take up. Than look at the box requirements for subs. The box requirments don’t include the volume of port, bracing, and the actual sub. So if the box requirments say 3ft^3, than you can’t just build a 3ft^3 size box, you need to make a box that has 3ft^3 + the space that the bracing, port, and actual sub take up. Good Luck

    2 15’s!!! 3 12’s!! this must be a show car or something, cause you will shake the whole town!, and talk about weight.

It can be done, with someone who knows how to build a proper box (bracing, etc). The Solobaric S15L7 need A LOT of space (minimum 1.5 cubic feet for sealed/max 6.0 cubic feet, minimum 3.0 cubic feet for ported/max 6.0 cubic feet).

You can always have your subs sharing an airspace, with one pushing and the other pulling to save on room, but again, find someone who knows about building boxes to do this for you. The amps shouldn’t take up too much room (what are u going to be using), so they should be able to integrate it into the box or around it without any problems.

Be prepared to loose ALL of your trunk space though.

Good Luck.

:tsk: You can’t do that man, If he runs 2 15 L7’s ported wich is the only way to go with those subs, he will need a minimum of 6 ft^3 net. He will aslo have to add about 2ft^3 on top of that to take in account bracing displacement, port displacement, and driver displacement for a MINIMUM of 8 cubes. This setup would be about 225 pounds if made out of 3/4" MDF. Fiberglass is a different story but than you’re talking maaajor $$$.

It’s all up to him and whoever is building it for him. If he takes out his spare tire and builds up from there, he should have enough space, just no space left over for anything else. If he doesn’t mind giving up a little sound (which, with 2-15" Kickers isn’t a big deal), he could go with the sealed boxes with the smaller boxes, but agreed, either way, it’s gonna be very heavy.

Yah, I’m sure there’s enough room, I’ve never meausred my hatch before. There is no way I would ever go sealed with L7’s. It would have a lot more output with just one sub in a ported box as opposed to two sealed. If he went with two ported, then there might have to be some fiberglass work. I’m thinking a box of that size with fiberglass could easilly be $500. It’s just something he needs to do and figure out himself . I really don’t think he’s serious about this at all, becuase if he was, he would have said a price and what he was looking for and actually gave us some info.

Good point. If he has the money and the means, to each his own. I am a SQ guy (I do like bass, but in balance), and can never figure out why people put massive amounts of subs in their daily driven cars…all that extra weight plus the option of going very deaf very quickly just boggles my mind. With the amount of labour a custom box for those massive subs, if put toward something else, could build a nice set of custom kick panels and a good trunk (for reasonable sized subs) as well.

Again, it’s just my opinion, and what does that matter…just a little bored rant…

I hear ya man. I’m more of an SPL guy, but I always blend my bass well with the front and have a adequtefront soundstage. I always build my enclosure out of at least partial fiberglass if not all and try to keep the whole setup including the sub itself under 25 pounds wich is pretty hard considering most SPL subs weigh from 25-50 pounds itself. It does hurt perfromance a little bit in the teg, but it’s worth it to me and It’s not like I have a race car. Never massive bass without any highs though. I usually only turn up the bass at night or when no one is around so everyone else in rush hour traffic doesn’t have to hear my bass. I always have setups capable of great SQ and SPL, not just one or the other. Anyway, just saying you some very good points and I’m with ya on them

ya in general theres room for 15s. i have a 15 orion xtr pro and im satisfied. as far as L7’s go, i hate them. they sound awful. i had a 12L7 in 1.0sealed, 2.2sealed, 3.5ported, all of them sucked. sq was horrible. granted, they were loud as hell and i liked it, but i dont have midbasses nor do i want to install them so i needed someting with a higher range. ok so i guess they dont suck that bad, they just didnt fit my needs :stuck_out_tongue:
