I have an 86 teg and i was planning on doing an ls/vtec im not sure about all the engine codes like b18, b18c, b18c1 But i am a pretty experianced builder and i would like to know if i could use the block out of an 86 teggy and build my ls-vtec ive read amost all the fourms and found notthing even that whole engine swap guide, if this will work could you tell me of any problems i might run into and possibly what kind of fuel rail, dis, engine harness, ecu, and all those goodies, BTW i also have the 5spd tranny from an 86 teggy could you tell me wat kind a tranny that is, and if it would be any good for an all motor ls/vtec… Thnx alot Jeff:D
ummm, pretty sure that isnt going to work. One thing an 86 has a “D” series engine. LsVtec refers to a non vtec “B” series block with a Vtec “B” series head.
yo
I wanst suure but even if im only using the block a v-tec head wont bolt up?
K2Jeff,
I’ve owned both first and second generation Integras and the 88 my brother has is powered by a “Blacktop” ZC motor. It was a simple drop-in installation but that was on an 88 chassis which has a different distributor. A “B” series installtion on a 86-87 Integra will be a little more difficult but not impossible.
Place Placing has a “B” kit for the AV’s and I suggest that you save time and money and install a stock B16A along with whatever tranny comes with the motor. You may also be able to use the HASport kit for the 84-87 Civics.

Hey
Thanks for the info but my goal was to take the motor from the first gen teg, do an ls/vtec on it and drop it into my other g2 that needs a motor, I like the first gen that im pullin the motor from but it has some pretty bad rust and the interior is shot, not to mention the almost 200,000 clicks on the speedo, Ideas anyone? i really would like to build that up to a v-tec, does anyone know what problems i would run into ,I am experianced so i know what im doing and i have pleanty of machine shops to bring stuff to, i just was wondering what the problem would be???
Wait, if I’m reading this right, you want to “take the motor from the first gen teg”, modify it and drop it into your 2G???
OK, now I’m sure I read it wrong. I thought you wanted to put an B18 LS/VTEC into your AV not a D16 LS/VTEC into your DA.
The 1st gen Integra (AV) is powered by a D16A1 motor that is not compatible with your 2G (DA). There are no DOHC D-series VTEC heads and the closest thing you’ll find is the 125hp SOHC VTEC D16’s found in the 92-95 Civic Si/EX’s. I remember reading some people doing “LS/VTEC” on “D” series motors calling them “Mini-Me’s”.
The D16’s tranny is also not compatible with a B series motor. Although it is cable actuated, it will not bolt up to any B16, B17, B18 (a,b,c), or B20.
You’re better off selling your '86 and using that money to fund a buildup of the motor in your 2G.
you see
See the thing is i have the funds, but this means that i have to find and ls motor around for cheapppp… because i dont have a motor in my other teg which i want to make a streetable all motor beast ls/vtec and i am starting with just the block and maybe a v-tec head everything else except some bearings will be aftermarket… Thanks for you help alll, anybody got an ls motor with a good block for 200 + shipping extra or maybe pickup ( ive looked around lets see if i missed any;)
LS Vtec Conversion
the d series is just that a d series, not too much you can do to it. you have to order mounts from place racing or hasport in order to drop a B series motor into your G1, i know cause im doing a Ls Vtec swap into mine using a B16 head and a 1990 Ls B18. i also have a 2nd Gen GSR cable tranny for it as well, if you have a question just e mail me.........RSBAD454@AOL.COM
if that is the case that you have the funds then just geta b18 rs block and go form there. don’t be cheap and try to save money by going and using your first gen block. do some reseach you said you want to make it a streetable ls/vtec beast, if you use the first gen block you will not pass a smog referee or a smog test. You can only put a newer or same year engine in your car you can’t put an older engine it’s not legal. Anyways why would you, have you seen the numbers that those engines put out. RESEARCH:confused: :read: :read: compare the HP from that engine to the HP in a 91-93 teg and you will learn alot. how could you say that you have alot of knowledge and want to do something like that
