1992 Acura Integra VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor & the Haynes 1990-93 Auto Service Manual

I have went through a whole bunch of pages of old posts concerning the replacement of this. My question is in most forum post they say this is on the transmission for standards. I have a Automatic 1992 Integra RS DOHC 1.8, and the Haynes manual says that the VSS is behind the instrument cluster in the dash. So which is it? I really do not want to yank the instrument panel out and it not be there and I really can’t see it on my transmission like the forums say and in the pics. HELP!!!:mad:WHAT I AM I DOING WRONG? For the record my speedometer and odometer doesn’t work. It doesn’t bounce, it just doesn’t move at all. Now my RPM’s work all day long. Just frustrated. Thanks!!!

The VSS is in the trasnmission. there is a cable that runs from it to the back of your spedometer. sounds likes the connection isbroken. most times its just slips out of the transmission. that would obviusly be easiest to check first as the other end requires removal of the guage cluster.

So even Automatics have it? Why does the book say it is in the cluster behind the dash?

because our VSS are cable driven the unit is located on the transmission towards the firewall side… on our vehicles its technically called a power steering speed sensor and there should be 2 hoses that are attached to it… it just so happens that the is also a cable that comes out from the top of it and connects to the back of your cluster. this is where the actual speed senor converts mechanical into electrical pulses.

the haynes is probably telling you to test the VSS by rotating the hole in the back where the cable would connect and see if there is continuity between terminal A and B correct?

Yes it is. So should I try the sensor first?

As your speedometer does not work I would look to the cable first and see if it is broken. You my try just re setting it and see if that willl fix it.
