20 years with my GSR

New pics and 5 years later on post 138 and later!

I wanted to post this on Friday but the site was down. Thanks for getting it back up.

Today, March 9th I have owned my 1992 GSR for 20 years. I bought it with 22 miles on the odometer for $23,500 out the door and now it has 275,000 miles on it. I never thought that I would keep it for this long. I have thought about trading it in a million times, but it’s like part of the family now.

When I bought my first Integra LS Special in 1991 there was a red NSX on the show room and I tried to convince my dad to let me buy that, by he just laughed at me. He said that I would just kill myself in that car. Of all the cars I thought about trading the GSR in for, I just couldn’t see wasting the money on them when I really wanted the NSX. I finally bought one 3½ years ago. I was going to sell the GSR and just daily drive the NSX. My wife convinced me to keep the GSR and just use the NSX for fun days.

I’ve still thought about getting a new daily driver just so I wouldn’t have to deal with all of the little things that keep breaking on the GSR. It’s still way cheaper than a monthly car payment though. I really want an Aston Martin Vantage but I think that might be a while.

I have written down my fuel costs and mileage since I bought the car also. My wife hates driving my car because I still make her write down the mileage when we get gas. Here are some pictures of the numbers and prices. I wish gas was still the same price that it was in 1992.

I just had the seats recovered again for the second time. I updated it and put heated seats in. I don’t know how I lived without them for the last 20 years. The last time I did leather was in 1997, and it was time to do it again. The rear seats still looked brand new of course, but the front were getting pretty tired. The rest of the interior is still holding up great. There are a few scratches on the center console, but the dash still looks great.

I put suspension on the car back in 1993. I changed the shocks out about 3 years ago. I got 200,000 miles out of a set of Tokiko Illuminas. They came with the lifetime warranty, so I got the new set for free.

I put a Wings West Kit on it in 1997 or 98. I changed the front end to a 90-91 front so I could use the Kit from that year on it.

I have put this car thru the wringer. I delivered pizza in it for about 8 years. I figure about 100,000 miles or so are delivery miles. I also tracked the car for about 12 years. I haven’t taken it to the track much lately, but I need to start doing it again. I have blown up a few transmissions and engines, but I can’t complain from all the abuse that I have given it.

I hope it still looks good in another 10 years. I think it’s time to change the wheels again. I’ve had these on for 10 years now. I’m thinking about Advan RG2’s but I can’t decide. I have an old set of Momo Quasars that I had on the car in 93 still in the shed, but they are about 20 pounds a piece for 15x7’s. Maybe I’ll get them refinished again and throw them on for fun.

Here are some pictures as it sits now.

Love it!

I would kill for a nsx ur db is so sexy and love the leather door panels

Thanks so much for sharing! Congrats on hitting 20 years with her.

She’s a keeper

You sir are a god. Haha loving them both. I find myself overly excited by the fact of original owners still having their g2’s.

You should know that I have made my comment on Honda Tuning (DarthNemisis) with my respect of your pride to your DB. True time capsule and a since of appreciation for the older folks like our selves who own a classic like this!

Glad to see an owner still have their car. Wish I was old in 92 to get a new integra let alone a db2. I had to wait until I was 17 in '98 to get my '92 white GS. Sold it that in college in '03 Only to regret it everyday since so I just picked up a '92 agp db2 with 160 k original miles last month for my 31st birthday.

You mentioned you replaced the engine a couple of times. Did you rebuild the b17?

Hey, watch on the old remark. LOL I was 18 when I bought the GSR.

Good luck with the GSR. They are getting more rare by the second.

The first B17 block was under warranty still and the dealership threw it away when they replaced it. I wish I would have known to keep it back then. At least the head. There was a hole in the side of the block on that one.

I’ve rebuilt the second B17 3 times.

It’s been great owning it. I still have the original window sticker and brochure from the dealership from when I bought it also.

That is awesome. Rebuilding it 3x…mad props to you…Nsx looks beauty…

vtecpwr, i have to give you big props on how clean the car has been maintained. bookmarked this page, as well.
my parents bought a 92 gs new, when i was 5. i drove it up until i got a 370z in early '11. sold the teg cause i couldn’t afford the insurance on top of the $1958/year for the z. now i terribly regret it and need to get it back, but i’m having a very difficult time due to a falling out with the person that bought it. not sure what to do.
i want to ask you, what was the cost to reupholster your seats, the added heated seat function and switch, and if you felt any difference like sitting higher due to the extra material in the seat. i want to do reupholster my seats the same as you, with the addition of heated seats on the passenger side as well if i ever get it back. thank you

also, does your current rear bumper stick out further than the oem one?

Gotta watch out, she’s old enough to go around dating. haha

Truly an amazing story! Big ups on keeping the car all these years in such great condition. My car is very close to that condition and I am the 2nd owner…its almost there!!

BTW…the NSX is beautiful!

-Steve

This year will be 15 years with my 1991 LS.

amazing amazing  …amazing lol

Cool and inspirational Story:up: Congrats on 20 years!

Just keep asking the person to buy it back is what I would do. It can’t hurt to try.

I have a friend that works at the dealership so my cost was way less than what it should be. It was going to be $1250.00 with the heated seats on both sides with the door panels and switches. I wanted to do perforated centers on the seats and door panels but the kit got ordered wrong. They gave me another discount, so it was $985.00 out the door. I check on my own, and they wanted $1800.00 just to do the front and rear seats with no warmers or door panels.

I don’t feel like I am sitting any higher. The heated panel is very thin under the leather.

It is just wings west lip kit. It sticks out further by maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
