20 years with my GSR

Beauty!

Thanks. Just about to hit year 22 of ownership on March 9th.

22 years of ownership today. I did a few things this year. I put on extended top hats for the illuminas and ground controls to try to fix the ride. It still is a little bouncy. I might have to go with coil-overs instead or raise it back up a little bit. I hoped that would fix it, but I’m not really sure it will ever ride that good being so low.

I just installed JDM taillights. I was getting moisture in my left one so I decided finally to put them in. The body shop that worked on my car last time didn’t put new gaskets on. They just used silicone and some kind of black goo instead. No wonder they were leaking. It made it a pain in the ass to take out. I ended up cracking one of the factory one trying to get them out.

I’ve still been trying to figure out this exhaust leak. I took the whole thing off the other day to see if I could see a hole in it somewhere. There was nothing wrong with it that I could see. All the gaskets were good an I couldn’t see any holes anywhere. I might just buy new exhaust because the old Greddy is starting to surface rust really bad. I might do custom with a magnaflow muffler this time just so I can run a little bit bigger piping. I just can’t decide if I don’t want to run name brand exhaust though. I put the Greddy on in 97 or 98 and it has been great.

I finally got the car re-tuned this summer and got rid of my old Hondata s100. I was having a partial throttle stutter for the last 10 years and it was driving me crazy. I just used chrome this time for tuning. Rich-tuned did the map for me. He ended getting another 19 horsepower out of it. That puts me at 187 to the wheels with 17" wheels on it. I put my snow tires on this winter and it feels way faster. I need to hit the dyno to see if it makes any difference in power.

I finally figured out which wheels to get. I went with the SSR GTV-02 in a 16x7.

The wife ordered them for me for Christmas in November and I’m still waiting on them. I’m hoping in another month they will be here. I’m still deciding on which tires to go with. I’m thinking the Bridgestone RE-11 in 205 45 16. I’d like to go with a 215 but the only one I can find is the yokohama s-drive and i want something a little stickier than that.

I’ll get some new pics when my wheels finally come in and get them posted.

Here’s to another year of ownership and hopefully a lot more to come.

Happy Anniversary and more years to come with your car!!!

X2. Car is so clean, looking forward to seeing latest pics.

Only had mine for 7 years, first car aswell. I don’t know if ill ever get rid of it.

Thanks. I’m hoping for it also.

I can’t wait for the wheels to show up. The car already looks a whole lot better being lowered a little more.

You’ll regret it if you do. THe newer cars are nice with all the bells and whistles, but the just don’t feel the same as driving the 90’s Hondas.

Again very clean! Did you redo the leather seats? They look a little baggy. Looks better than factory. Mine is original and looks a little tighter than yours.

Yes I did. They have tightened up since then. These pictures were about a month after doing them. Yours still look like new for factory leather. What do you use on them to clean and protect?

Been using Lexol products Cleaner and conditioner for years. At first I used the liquid form where you pour in on a rag then wipe. Then they came out with the wipes. And those are very convienant.

That is what I used to use. I switched to Griot’s products about 5 years ago. The leather smell after applying it makes it smell like a new car again. I can only wish.

Ya didn’t hang out for to long at Griot’s. Weinie…:nana:

Nope. I’m so sick of sitting around in the rain. I can’t wait till summer starts.

love your car’s! I’m the guy with the other red GS-R at meets. (well 2 meet’s)
Jimbo

We need to have more meets up here.

Just found out that my wheels aren’t coming yet. The finish came out wrong on them so it will at least be another 3 months of waiting. That is after I was told that they were already on the boat on their way here.

I’m debating on buying a different set of wheels now. Any suggestions? I’m looking for a lightweight 16".

I just picked up my second DB2 and have the same plans to keep her as long as i can. Having a NSX along with it is a dream of mine as well. You sir have a well stocked Garage.

If you plan on removing greddy id be interested in purchasing it to rebuild. Lmk

Start looking for an NSX. You won’t regret it.

I’ll keep you in mind if I ever sell it.

Another year gone by. It’s 23 today! :excite: I finally got my new wheels installed at the end of last summer. I went with Volk CE28 Club Racers in a 16x7 size. It makes the car feel a lot lighter on it’s feet with the weight loss from the 17’s. After fighting with SSR forever, it still took almost 5 months for the Volks to arrive. Then it was on to tires. I got Bridgestone re-11’s in a 205-45-16. I have to say, these tires put the old ones to shame for road feel. The sloppiness I felt in the sidewalls are all about gone with these. Also, these are a lot quieter which is nice.

I also lowered it with ground control coilovers. I really like the look with it a little lower, but the ride is terrible now even with extended top hats on all 4 corners. I think it’s time to find a good set of full coilovers for the track. The problem is finding a good set. I’m not too worried about the cost, it’s just having a company that makes good ones now. Also, I’m crashing into the wheel wells with the top of my a-arms now also. I’m thinking it’s maybe just the camber kits, but i’m not nearly as low as most of the cars I see around.

I fixed my exhaust leak that I had. It was hard to figure that one out. It would get loud going up a hill under load when the exhaust heated up, and then immediately quiet down after. I got it on a rack and had to sit there a rev it while someone was looking. It was the resonator. It was cracked around the pipe that came out of the back. I took it off and ground down all of the surface rust and it welded right up. Not to bad for exhaust from the 90’s. I wish Greddy would make exhaust like this again.

I also just rebuilt the original starter. The contacts had gone bad it in after 23 years. They were worn almost all of the way thru. I put the new ones in, and it’s good to go now.

On the the pics. I still haven’t got a proper shoot with the new wheels, so my terrible ones will have to do. :frowning:

Just came across this thread, and I must say…congrats on your original ownership! Kinda reminds me of my own story in that I also had an Integra back in the day, but sold it after 7 years and moved on to an E36 M3, which I’ve kept ever since (going on 19 years!).

But I still miss my Integra, and if I could have afforded to keep her and buy the M3, then I definitely would have done so. Alas, the Integra is long gone, but as I mentioned in another thread, if I ever came across a clean low-mile unmolested GS-R, I’d grab it in a heartbeat! Great job on keeping yours super clean, although I personally would have gone with the Mugen kit long before the Wings West one (and ditch the stock wing for the 3-piece AMS). Beautiful regardless! Here’s a pic of my baby just a few months before selling her…sigh. :tsk:

I love the E36. It is an awesomw track car. I’ve driven a few at the track and I just love how solid they feel.

Keep looking for a low mileage one. Someone has to have one stuufed away in their garage somewhere.

I would ahve loved to get the Mugen Kit. It was just way over my price budget at the time. I’m kicking myself for not getting it then. I still have the the catalog with the list of stuff that I wanted back in the day.

Maybe you can find your old one and buy it back.
