I, uh, did my timing belt. Again.

I finished the job on Thursday following the FSM but it was a royal pain in the ass to get the belt over the exhaust cam gear (the one towards the front of the car). I never had enough slack to get the belt on the exhaust cam the way I wanted. Eventually (I thought) I got it and finished the job.

Well, when I fired up the car the idle would drop and almost stall. Kind of like when the IACV is having issues, but from 100rpm-800rpm in this case. I took my valve cover off and my exhaust cam was a tooth off.

So I went back in and did everything again, except I didn’t have to take off the engine mount luckily. And I timed the engine like 3 more times, only to have the same problem after checking timing, the exhaust cam would always end up a tooth off.

I finally got it right and the solution was to NOT follow the integra FSM in this case. I actually followed a procedure from this video, where they show a clip from hondastreet garage. The trick is to do the intake cam last, since you have the tensioner loose to slack up the belt on that half.

Check timing and it was actually right, finished and fired it up and all was good!

not sure what to do with my integra as i was in an accident with a hit and run driver and then a second accident with a semi truck in the same day. the semi truck accepted liability so i am just waiting for insurance even though its been a month already.

i dont really want to sell the car to a junkyard, i might let the insurance take it but the engine and transmission and radiator and everything are still good its just squished on both sides. and both rear tires suspension is slightly bent because the rear tires have negative camber and is eating away at the inside edge of the tires. but i still drive it for fun sometimes its just the tires will eventually get down to the wires but the interior is nice maybe someone on here could use it for parts?

:frowning:

Keep it for parts, find somebody’s abandoned project and make a new one?

I see a decent amount of DA’s on marketplace that look like abandoned projects, you have a template of how and where stuff should go with this car, wouldn’t be too hard to bring a basketcase back to stock.

ive already salvaged it twice too much of a money pit lol

Idk, I would low-ball some of the people I see selling in southern cali and try to get a good shell to swap all the stuff into. Or part out and use those funds towards something. Interior stuff seems to go for good money on eBay.

I caved and bought p2m floor mats. They’re so cool looking
