I recently had a b18a1 sawpped for my old b18a1 in my 91 integra gs. The shop that did the swap actually removed the bulb so I wouldnt catch onto the check engine light problem for awhile.
Well now I need it smogged to register it and have failed one test. So I replaced my non-cali legal header for a dc sport thats carb legal. I replaced the O2 sensor at the same time I did the header swap. Then I had a new Cali legal catalytic converter put on. I then only had one other thing stopping me from getting it smogged, and that was the tech saying my check engine bulb isnt coming on at all.
That’s wierd I thought, it never had that problem before the engine swap. So I followed the advice here to the letter and removed the cluster and low and behold…no bulb at all in the check engine space for it.
My only other way to see why was to turn the key to the on (but not start) position and count the red blinks from the rear passenger area cutout. It gave 3 well spaced out blinks and no more.
What could be the reason for the check engine light and whats the 3 flashes mean?
Help please, thanks,
LJ
You aren’t reading from the correct ECU. The one behind the passenger cutout is for the ABS not the engine.
Engine is under the passenger carpet.

Ok thank you. And from that one under the passenger carpet there are 3 blinks then a pause and then 3 more blinks, then a pause ,then 7 blinks then a pause and then 1 longer blink.then it starts over 3 blinks - pause 7 blinks pause 1 long blink.
Then it repeats 3 short - 3 short - 7 short -1 long???
Any help?
(short)(short)(short) - (short)(short)(short) - (short)(short)(short)(short)(short)(short)(short) - (long)??
Is this one or 2 codes?
thanks, and just for clarity, the code I described would be the knock sensor? yes?
No – the B18a does not have a knock sensor.
It appears you are misinterpreting the codes, or misreading them.
From the information you provided, my best guess is that you have the following codes:
13: Atmosphere Pressure
3: MAP Sensor
7: Throttle Angle
Check that your MAP and TPS sensor is wired correctly. Check your vacuum lines.
How about I go a take a video of the codes so as to have one of you who can correctly interpret the flashes help me to not make a erronious , and potentially costly repairs to the wrong part.
Be right back.

Can someone tell me how many codes this is showing por favor?
Looks like you have codes 13, 3, and 7 as I presumed.
Check your sensors and vacuum routing.
Is that the official name acura gave that sensor ? The atmosphere pressure sensor? What section of the manual is it in? Most of the sensors are in the fuel and emissions section. However I dont see it in this section. Could it maybe be the barometric pressure sensor?
I’m assuming thats it.
The atmosphere pressure sensor on a 90 is behind the kick pannel on a 90 teg an 91 it is built in to the ecu. I have a 91 obdo car i put in a 90 ecu didnt know they were different an i got the code 13 took out the ecu put back a 91 an code gone so you might have the wrong year ecu in it. you say the motor a 91 what year car is itthat you are putting the 91 motor in
It’s a 91 GS. The engine is supposed to be a 1991 b18a1 ,however for some reason there were differences in the intake and the heads I believe. I’m gonna go check them out right now.
Where can I pick up a 1991 ECU thats garaunteed to be good? Anyone know of a store or a online merchant thats selling ECU’s for tegs?
