i did some research on this site but didnt find what i was looking for. this guy is selling his da cf hood for $30 but all the clear coat is gone or faded. he also said that there is about a 6in crack in the front. he said its just a straight line crack not shattered or anything. i was wondering if it would be worth it and if it were easily fixable? also what exactly i would have to do to fix it. thanks
As much as a 2 dollar hooker…
Run!!!
That’s a steal! Maybe mend the crack with some type of industrial epoxy and then give it a good clear coat. Too bad it’s in Texas or else I’ll swoop it up…
DOOOOOOO EEEEEEEET!
just use fiber glass raison an then sand good an good clear
im waiting for the guy to send me a picture, but i know i want it. hopefully its not to hard or to expensive to fix. thanks
i got the carbon fiber hood today. it was in worse shape then i thought. the crack is pretty big and underneath it has acouple cracks too. i went ahead and baught it anyway, i think i can fix it but its gonna take ALOT of work! ill put a picture up tomorrow, let me know what you guys think. honestly it was only worth $30 i see why he sold it for so cheap. ill bring it back to life though
can it be fixed?
Anything can be fixed, now weather or not its worth it is the true question. My old carbon hood had some cracks in it and the clear was fading, but after my buddy bought it from me, he had it recleared and the cracks were hardly noticable. Seeing where that crack is I dont know if you would have the same results, but like other people have said if you strip the clear off and they are still there then I don’t think it is worth the work, but if they disappear then your in buisness. You would just need to get it recleared, how deep does it look like the cracks go down? IE; are they down to the actual weave of the carbon or not?
get the hood painted and leave the center CF
yea it goes down to the weaves. i can run my hand across it and its raised up alittle along the crack. the crack goes all the way through right in the front. im gonna lay it down on my car and see if it all lines up. if it doesnt even line up right then im not gonna waist my time trying to fix it. but i was thinking to put resin over the crack and then put a cf sheet over it and resin that too. and can i put resin on the cracks that are on the bottom side?
Ship it to niagara falls, canada. Ill give you 30$. plus the shipping of course. I specialize in fixing carbon fibre
im gonna try and see what i can do to fix it. but if i cant ill keep that in mind, im sure its not gonna be cheap to ship it
That doesn’t look like a straight crack to me. The rest of that hood can be polished back to life, I would say fix the crack with fiberglass, and paint the whole thing.
