3rd brakelight interior cover problem

this is my first post in the LONGEST time (and i did search–sorry if wrong forum) due to a very very busy schedule with school, work, and sports. anyways, during my absence, my 3rd brakelight interior cover (lil black plastic thing) has fallen off numerous times.

i got it to stay in for like a month, and then out of nowhere it fell off again! i then tried glue…no luck either (fell off after a week).

so, does anyone have any suggestions for me? it is quite annoying trying to drive, especially at night, when all you see is bright light in your rear view (while braking).

thanks

dude i had the exact same problem!! i just taped it with black electrical tape, and it hasnt fallen since, the little clip that holds it on sucks a$$, it breaks off so fu(ken easy

lil clip that holds the brake light :gun2:

The longest mine’s stayed on is over 12 years!

Maybe go get new clips for it? Or any clip that will fit in there.

I secured mine with Velcro. I could have sworn I wrote up a teg tip about it. . . I KNOW I took pictures but

Anyway just get some velcro pieces, and put the felt part on the metal surface where the bulbs are housed. Next, match up these areas with the other part of the velcro (the firmer attaching part) and glue them onto the inside of the cover. If you do it right it’ll fit securely and you can pop it off whenever you need to.

I have had blac electric tape on mine ever since I have owned the car, and nobody notices and it wont fall any more!!!

I used electrical tape but it will melt and fall off on hot days.

eh, i just took off my 3rd break light!, illeagal? yeah, most likly, but it looks pretty! all well, i wanna get the 3rd brake like spoiler soon anyway so it will be ok.

thanks for all the suggestions. i ended up just screwing it in with 2 screws on each side. works flawlessly and the small screws are barely noticeable. i dont think it’ll ever come out now (unless i want it to)

Is that illegal?? Mine keeps falling off too and I was thinking of just taking it off.

ya know what man, i really dont know, but it deffinatly looks sweet with out it, ill look it up thought and see what laws there are about that, i know i have noticed some cars without them, like older cars, not real old, like early 90’s , but im not sure about the laws on it, ill tell ya if i find anything though, but im planning on gettin the spoiler with the led brake light on it, so ill be all good.

i took out mine and it look clean.i have a 3 piece wing with a led brake light on it and plus the stock brake lights.

yeah, i need an led brake lights spoiler, not that i got in trouble yet for no 3rd brake light, but i just dont want to. i did rig somthing up in my regular brake lights so that one of the bulbs on either tail light itsnt on all the time, only when the brakes are applied, so its kinda like a 3rd brake light.

its defineately NOT illegal!! the law states that you must have 2 working parking lights and 2 working brake lights. mine was doing that too, and its in the trash right now, besides lighter is better

peace,
cs

yeah i just asked a local cop, and he says its not illeagal.

Alright, so i opened my hatch today, and my brake light cover fell off. i tried putting it back on, and now it don’t stay. also. the plastic peice that’s against the glass doesnt stay secure. anyone have any ideas. the peice attached to the glass looks cracks, so i may just buy a new one, anyone know how much they cost?

in my 90 ls it fell off a few times till finally the clip broke so i just took out the bulbs quick fix … but in my rs it is almost hanging from the glass i think i might remove it!

I’ve found that using the aluminum tape that is commonly used for clothes dryer installs (etc) works exceptionally well at keeping this plastic piece on. The only bad thing is that it’s silver.

lol, I did the same thign
