I knew my car smoked under hard acceleration once and a while, but this is absurd!
I just got done installing new valve seals, headgasket, etc. Threads nice and clean, slowly torqued to spec and everything.
Now, normal around town driving hardly burns any oil at all. Now it only smokes if I get on it, not after I let off the gas.
Last time I did a compression check, they were all around high 180’s. Could it be possible that some of the oil rings are toast, or could this be some other problem?
Did it start burning this noticeable amount of oil after installing those vave seals? I had somewhat of a similar problem. I sent a head to the machine shop to be hot tanked, resurfaced, and new OEM valve seals. After I installed the head with all of the new OEM gaskets, I was burning through about 1 qt per week. My compression test would give me good numbers also. I later just ended up swapping in a JDM B20. I still have that motor on a stand and I looked it over the other day. I noticed that just about all of the valve stems have oil dripping past the seals into the combustion chamber. I don’t know what the hell the shop did wrong, but in my case, I’m pretty sure something went wrong with the install they performed on the seals.
Like everyone had told me in the past, perform a leakdown test to pinpoint the loss.
is there blue smoke in the morning on start up? if not, i would perform another compression test. first dry, then wet.
another possibility is the pcv valve. check that as well
