4dr side mirror onto a 2d *tip**w/pics*

Wassup everyone?
First mistake I made was, I bought a side mirror off a 4dr.
Second mistake I didn’t search here first to see if the 4dr mirror will fit my 2dr. So I wasted sometime installing a side mirror that didn’t fit onto my 2dr lol. I amost wasted some money too, I was looking on ebay for a side mirror off a 2dr. Lots of pplz here might know this already, but when I searched I didn’t find any tips for what I’m about to tell you. It’s very practical so hopefully it helps somebody out there. :shy:

Like lots of pplz out there… I needed a new driver side mirror; because of a broken mirror and the back of the mirror housing was broke & missing.

The 4dr mirror base the part that holds the whole mirror/housing. The base is shorter then the 2dr mirror. So only two screws can be screwed in from inside the car. So what did I do? Since I have a new 4dr side mirror. I unscrewed 3 screws in the bottom of the side mirror, and took the whole top half of the mirror/housing off. Then cut the power mirror wires, about 8’’ from the bottom, because the power mirror wires end connector peice will not slide through the little hole from out the base.

I then put the whole top of the mirror/housing onto my 2dr side mirror base, and spliced the wires together again using electrical tape. Screwed back in the 3 screws in the bottom of the mirror to hold the mirror/housing into the base.

The 4dr mirror/housing fits perfect on the 2dr base. So that’s how easy it is. As long as you have your 2dr mirror base, you can use any 2dr or 4dr top mirror/housing. And vise a versa.

When I mean the 4dr base is shorter, the slope of the base.

The 2dr base the slope extends a little further “it’s in the red” about that much longer.
I hoped this lil’tip helped somebody… So you don’t have to buy a new side mirror when all you have to do is switch the base.

I always thought it would work out like that but never had the chance to try it. Good find, I’m sure it will save some people alot of money.

Also, you do not need to cut the wires, simply de-pin the plug and the wires will pull right through the base. This can be done with a pick or small awl. I had to to this when installing my JDM folding mirrors many times and even had to replace the motors in them.

A small flat blade screwdriver is good too. Remember to mark the connector with which wire goes where.
