50A fuse?

my car just died out of no where. I checked the fuse box under the hood and one fuse is popped. not the regular fuse but the big one with screws. what kind of fuse is it? I’m thinking radiator but I not really sure…any help would be great.

The 50A fuse is one of the MAIN fuses.
The 50A fuse supplies power from alt./batt to every thing in your car, except starter motor.

That fuse blowing means you have a short in the system before the under dash fuse box, [and fuses in the under hood fuse box].

You say “out of no where” what does that mean?

Obviously the car was running, but were you driving, was anything else in the car on, [head lights, stereo, heater blower motor, rear window defog] or did it happen when you turned something on?:hmm: 94

happened while driving…but i did replace it and its working fine…found a wire that have been ripped open and been touching the ground or frame. just wanted to know what it is for future reference.

A wire touching the chassis would definitely short out the lead and blow the fuse, there are actually two “main” fuses, the 50A and the 70A, [90-91] 80A, [92-93], the 70A/80A is the main fuse between the batt. and everything, [except starter] the 50A is between everything, [except the alt.,power window relay and starter motor] the alt. is connected between the 50A and the 70A/80A and the power window relay is after the 70A/80A but before the 50A.

I guess it is because everything in the car needs less then 50A to operate but if you have a 4door with power windows and all windows are used at the same time the load would be more then 50A.:shrug:94

oh i see, thanks for the help fcm. Now i know what it is.
