oh yeah forgot to tell everyone, im sure i can run 7-8 psi but i wouls like to get around 10-12, what else should be done… this is a daily driven teg too [/B]
Theres nothing wrong with boosting a B16…but for a bit more money you can get the B18 which will be a little more beefy. That’s all. You can get a B18 for around $2k. I don’t know who told you $3k…thats too much. The B17 is just harded to find since its more rare (only came in the 92-93 Geesers) but you can get that cheaper and build to suit.
As for boosting up to 10-12psi…this CAN be done on stock internals with the right setup contrary to popular belief. Our stock civic (SOHC mind you) has seen 12psi on stock internals without a headache It was great to prove a point to certain peoples arguments that the motor woudl blow with that amount of boost
damn mad low cr! just came up with another question? this engine has 152k on it, i already plan on rebuilding the head and block but on the block i was gonna only do pistons + rings… should i look into anythin else? maybe i should do something the crank while im at it? and what it going to be better for the head. itr or some kind of aftermarket such as crower? and wich is cheaper…
thompson if your gonna go turbo get forged pistons and new rods! for your head you dont want crazy cams so either use stock cams or maybe i think crower makes some turbo cams! but if your strapped for cash use your stock caMS homie!
so your saying this setup will get me 10psi and one nice little car
— stock 92 teg ls motor
— gsr tranny
— pistons + rods
— stock or turbo cams
— cam gears
— lsd and new clutch
— i want ac so im guessing drag turbo
— intercooler
and all this will be a nice setup for now? also for turbo what else is needed, like injectors, fpr, or should i just leave it all stock? i want it to run full potential, but i dont want to deal with replacing and going all out as of right now… should i look into a ignition too with a boost retard?
I wouldn’t bother with the GSR tranny, you don’t absolutely need short gearing with a turbo. Shorter gearing is really only a big advantage when going all motor and you have a narrow powerband. I’d just stick with the stock LS tranny. Vtec cams won’t fit in a non-vtec head. The crowers you can generally get a way with in some turbo applications are 62401, 62402, and 62403. The 62401’s to my understanding are exactly the same as your stock grinds, and are just designed as replacements. I wouldn’t even bother with new cams if you’re turbocharging, at least not initially. I’d put the money towards a good programmable ecu and fuel system goodies and some dyno tuning time.
okay so what kinnda ecu am i looking at, i know i want to get the redline up and get rid of the rev limiter? know anywhere to look at some info on them? also what kind of fule goodies should i look into… thanks… thompson
Since it’s a 92, it’s obd-1, so you have a lot of options for programmable ecus. hondata’s are about the most popular, but there are a number of others, like aem, and some others that I can’t think of right now. go to www.hondata.com for more info on them. Check some other forums, like www.honda-tech.comwww.honda-acura.net etc, and you should find a few other people mentioning other programmable ecus.
ya spikius is correct go ls tranny and when it comes to turbo mantainence is key so fpr injectors hondata is all good stuff to tune a turbo with! just ask some of the members that have turbos like harberdasher in sd or integracon in the yea area can tell you what kind of maintanence it takes and fuel management is good as well!
Go for crowers not stocks for the turbo. As far as Hondata…you can definitely save that for later if money is a restriction. Depending on which one you get it will be around $1k plus tuning will be anywhere from $500-$800 alone. It will be worth it though! It will make your car feel like it came turbo from factory.
just becareful buying used make sure its in good condition also i would ditch the nos idea but thats my opinion nos is good with high comp plus you will already have turbo! with that setup you will crack your block for sure then u will nee to have it resleeved!
hope that helps! just make sure you do your homework man!:read:
i was thining about getting the block resleeved anyway so i dont havr to do it in the future, would i have a prob then? and how much does that normally run?
well ill tell you i dont have boost nor do i ever plan to boost my inetgra but i would think resleeving makes the block stronger to handle more boost like ie ductile sleeves! now im sure you could still crack your block with sleeves if you were running to much boost! the guy to email would be 4dr16 i think hes in seattle and has a baby blue 4dr! i think thats his creen name 4drb16! not sure though! i would say more but i dont want to gibve you the wrong information!
so whats the deal with sleeves, cant i do this kinnda work myself? i can buy new sleeves and i have no problem trying something out… is it worth doing myself or should i consult a mechanic? and does anyone know where i can by piece for piece on a turbo… i looked at drag gen 2 on overboost.com and they are asking 3100, **** that i want alittle cheaper
