5th gear doesnt grab? and tranny swap ?

so, my 5th gear, doesnt grab, doesnt grind, doesnt make any noise. the owner before me told me it happened after he hit a pothole going 60, just wondering what that could be…

and also, my buddy has a f-series tranny that hell give me, but will it mount up to my b18a1?

well… welcome to G2ic i see ur new and joined in august… were all here to help each other out with any question u may have. well… i have never heard of a tranny messing up like that… im sure hes full of shit lol. the point is the 5th is gone. syncors probably out. need a new tranny. and NO a f series tranny will not work. the way it works is that B series trannys are interchangeble with ither b series engines… such as B18c, b18b… ect. f series is a whole different thing. those trannys suck anyway lol. u can find a fairly cheap tranny on this forum in the FOR SALE thread. a good b18a ( AKA “LS” ) tranny goes anywhere from 250- 350. so its not too expensive. any other questions like what tranny to get… or what clutch to use… simply ask… and u probably dont need a clutch but its always a great idea to change the clutch while the tranny is out… u might as well. and the type of clutch u need is based on the tranny u are using// not on the engine u have… u can have a 2000 b18b… but if you are using a 93 integra transmission… you have to go with the transmission. hope this answered some of you’re questions.

thanks, it did. i was just wondering if anybody had any insight other then the people ive talked to around here. cause everybody clueless, but how hard would it be to do a hydralic swap? as in going from the cable tranny/clutch set up to a hydraulic set up? thinking about doing that. even though i might end up with my buddys h22a motor in a year or so

Ya as said, 5th gear is gone. A pothole wasn’t the cause though. Rebuild your transmission or buy a used one. I wouldn’t do a hydraulic swap. Basically there is not much benefit and many problems when converting. The conversion usually involves mechanical slave cylinder that the stock clutch cable still operates. They have many problems so IMO just find a used cable trans and bolt it in. Note that 90-91 and 92-93 have different input shafts so they use different clutches but both transmissions will bolt up to your engine. Not really a fan of h22s in a Da but whatever floats your boat.

im not a fan of the h22 in the da either… lol i rather have a rev happy bseries motor… u might think… well i already have a bseries motor… yes but u have a stock LS engine… a GSR or type r engine is a whole different story… or u wanna get creative… b20 vtec or ls vtec… the possibilitys are endless. and as stated above by 90dateg… you wont get any benifit from that swap… all ull get is and extra mount that makes ur engine bay look all nasty. but its you’re choice. if you are interested… hasport makes a conversion kit… http://hasport.com/store/index.php/efbhcl.html
