90 da wont start

Alright, so about a year ago I picked up my first integra. The things been running strong even after a harrd winter. Starter went out a couple of weeks ago and was an easy fix. But a few days after replacing it I was having some issues with the start up. Starter was getting juice along with everything else but it just wouldn’t turn over so I took some sand paper to all my grounds and posetive connections and it turned out my battery terminals were all kinds of gunked up. Cleaned em off and car still wouldn’t turn over. So just for the hell of it I decided to trace some wires I popped off the dash cover under the steering wheel and stumbled across a rats nest of wiring. I’m talkin replacent fuses connected to wires that weren’t even spliced into anything, stock wiring that looked like it was spliced and then disconnected and never reconnected, and repplacement wires that are spliced all over the place into the stock wiring. So all I did was start tracing wires figuring out where every and thing thing is connected. I touched a fuse that was spliced into nothing and it just fell right off. I guess what im trying to get to is I really don’t have much background in wiring issues and I’m kinda just at a loss for what to do here and my car just won’t start. After playing digging around in all the wiring I decided just to push start the car. Popped the clutch and it cranked right up. I let it sit for a few minutes in idle and it stayed running. It was a little sputtery but it stayed running. But now its been 2 days and the car doesn’t wanna start back up. Haven’t done any more investigating yet but Like I said, the starters brand new and getting juice and cranking but any feedback on what to do would be great.

first place to start is by grabbing your multimeter. check and make sure that battery is fully charged…orielly auto does this for free. then make sure you are getting 12v at the main starter wire (black/white). if u are, then have someone hold the clutch and start the car, the other wire on the starter should read 12v. if it is, then the starter is bad. if it isnt, check the clutch switch and if that is good it is starter cut relay (yours is a standard right). keep me informed.

Clutch switch is cut from the previous owner. Has started just fine for the last year I have been driving it too. Had the battery and the starter both tested and both were good. Battery was holding a 90 percent charge and I had the guy test the starter 3 times and was perfectly functional.

So I understand, your saying the engine turns over, [cranks/starter works] but engine will not fire, [start/run] or do you mean, engine will not crank, [starter not working even though tested good].

If dash harness is a mess, I would replace it. 94

Is the mess of wires under the dash remnants of an alarms system? I have a rats nest under the dash as well (mine is near the clutch where the fuse box is) that was actually installed by an alarm installer. Been fighting with that for 15 years now (kick it with my toe now and then)…

I’m pretty posetive that’s exactly what it is

probably the alarm system has some kind of start disable function. But the car can still be pushed to start. Need to figure out how to reinstall alarm or return wiring to original. Look at step 5 of this link (there may be better links out there - and maybe specific to your alarm type) http://www.ehow.com/how_4552155_alarm-system-preventing-car-starting.html
