90 ls idle issue. i have researched

So about 4 months ago I traded my 93 civic for the da. The previous owner told me it needed the intake manifold gasket replaced, which he gave me with the car. After adjusting the ignition timing and cam timing, resetting the ecu, cleaning the iacv & adjusting the fitv. The damn car still don’t want to idle in one given rpm. it’ll idle anywhere from 500-1500 rpm. I’ve tried to adjust the idle screw in the throttle body & atjusted the throttle cable, still no dice I’ve tried and tried anyone have any ideas

And yes I’ve researched for hours upon hours about this. It also has a new o2 sensor as well

have you tried everything on this guys list http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?214382-Idle-fluctuation-only-after-coolant-warms-up-(searched) ?

I’ve don’t most on his list and it fixed my issues. FITV, IACV, no intake leaks from any little hose, and adjusting the timing/ idle screw the proper way ( not so it changes back). I was just reading his post the other day and he seemed on top of it

I have tried most of the things. I think I’m going to start retracing my steps. This is just getting annoying

when you adjusted the idle, was the iacv disconnected?

No, it was still connected

You never mentioned whether you replaced the IM gasket or not, did you replace it?

Yes its been replaced. And the torque has been checked as well

you absolutely MUST disconnect the iacv whenever adjusting idle. if not, the ecm will just command the iacv to open or close, countering your adjustment.
vehicle at operating temp, disconnect the iacv. idle should drop to roughly 500rpm. if it doesn’t, adjust the idle screw until it sits at 500. reconnect iacv. clear code. allow vehicle to idle, undisturbed, for 10 minutes for idle relearn. if ALL of those steps are not performed, in that order, the procedure is compromised

Ok ill give it a shot. I’m actually about to drive it so that’ll give it time to warm up. Ill post results

Well ive tried unplugging the iacv multiple times now. And low and behold no idle difference, so im going to assume the iacv is bad. Now when i took a screwdriver and tapped on the iacv i noticed a slight change in rpm but it didnt last but maybe a second or two

Well after numerous tests and trial and error. I decided to check the timing again. And low and behold the intake cam was a tooth out of time. I just wanted to say thank you to all who commented trying to help. Now she’s running great

my idle was related to shitty plug wires…

I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, tested the whole ignition system, throttle position sensor, cleaned the iacv, and cleaned and adjusted the fast idle thermo valve. I was about to give up and said what’s it going to hurt, I’ll check the mechanical timing. And low and behold it was off

there ya go, brother. sometimes it’s the simple things that get overlooked.

I have the OEM Integra Service Manual and i have done everything i can to get the idle screw to stop adjusting on its own. I have done the correct procedure about 3 times now but after a couple of days, my idle starts to fluctuate a little and low and behold, the idle adjustment screw had came out again…
I’ve noticed that it tends to happen after i go for a lil spirited drive. what can i do to prevent the idle screw from moving?

fingernail polish

seriously… after you get the screw set grab your chick’s fav fingernail stuff and put a nice dab from top to bottom across the thread and screw… let it set for 30 minutes and you won’t have that happen anymore.

also works great on oil pan bolts and pther stuff that you want to be able to crack loose again.
fingernail polish
Hmmm, and here I’ve been spending all this money on Loctite Blue… (chuckle)

yeah, i made the mistake of using Loctite Red on that screw on my old throttle body and i dont wanna make the same mistake on this one…
but im definitely gonna give the nail polish a try. sounds like a good idea!

Blue,… B-L-U-E…! sheesh, did I say blue?? … pretty sure I did! (ROFL)

On the other hand, can’t go wrong asking your g/f to pick the color of nail polish for your car…, just make sure it really IS nail polish this time!
