so i was driving my car a few blocks away from my house with the heater on blast, i was going probably 27 mph when i switched to 3rd gear i felt my car bogging down the rpms went down and the check engine light came on so i pulled over and turned it off, i tried restarting it but it wont start, my battery is good, the engine cranks and i checked my ecu and its throwing code 4. any help would be greatly appreciated:bowdown:
help anyone?
Code 4 is for a crank sensor which is inside the distributor. To fix it you need to replace the whole distributor. By the way faulty distributors are very common on our cars. I would recommend you buy a good quality one instead of a cheap aftermarket one since the cheap ones don’t last very long.
is a distributor gonna cost me an arm and leg? thanks for the reply.
it can if you get it brand new. when i got my car it had a brand new one on it. the previous owner said through the dealership they paid almost 300 for it. but im sure if you look around on here someone mite be selling one for a decent price…
distributors are common problems in our cars… i have been trough 3 distributors for the 7 year period that i have owned my integra… you could buy a good one but it will cost you an arm and a leg… 300… i suggest go to autozone… thats what i did… their basically oem distributors that are rebuilt… for around 180… and they come with a LIFE TIME WARRANTY… so if it ever happens again simply go to autozone and get a new one free of charged same day… as opposed to getting one online and have to ship it back to the factory and wait about a week to get it back…
i really appreciate the help dudes. i love my DA.
ok what if you just remove the distributore and slap on the new one, is there need for consern if timing is advanced or retarded. I guess my real question is if its possible to mess up timing by bolting the new distributore .
ditto
Yes, rotating the distributor changes timing. Try to put it in the same spot as the old one by marking the distributor and cam cap in a way that you can put it in the same position. To to this job properly you should then jump the service connector and set the timing with a timing light. If you don’t have one, you can take it to a shop and have them set it for a small cost.
so i replaced my distributor today and my car still wont start? i reset the ecu and its not throwing any codes anymore, any ideas?
