91 LS Help Needed

Hello everybody,

I have a 91 Biege ls which i have finnally decided to spend some time and money on. I was bought for $300 w/ a broken timing belt and bad fuel pump. since i’m due to tie the know soon, i’ll be giving my dialy driver (96 camry) to the misses and i need to fix up the acura. though this car will have to be my new daily driver i really want to have some fun with it and most imoratntly use it ti build up my knowledge of import modification and performance.

so basically what it comes down to is this:

a.) what are some good places to get g2 integra parts, in particular, cylinderheads, valve train, etc… since i’m assuming the valves took a hit or two.

b.) performance wise i want this car to be a daily driver that can do a 1/4 mile in about 13 sec or less (if that is possible) where should i start with this car? What parts of the engine and drivetrain are up to the stresses of performance racing/ driving, and what should i swap out right away.

c.)speaking of a 13 sec 1/4 mile, what kind of torque/ horsepower numbers am i looking at here?

d.) the interior of the car i trashed, the last owner was aparently to dirtiest person ever to own an acura. (i won’t mentioned the sticky stuff i found under the rear seats (ugh…) what is the best approach to take when redoing the interior.

e.) are there any major trouble ares i should look for in the 91 ls?
what are some of it’s strong points?

f.) i’m trying not to spend to much money in huge chunks, but i would be willing to put some into the car over time.

i’m looking most for advice here. i’ve always worked on my own cars and i am an engineer (read " anal about tech info." ) by trade so if you have any ideas or advice please provide some backgraound i can read up on, i will be eternally greatful and i hate to do things i don’t completely understand.

Thanks Everyone, i really appreciate your time and help!

13’s is fast. You’ll need a pretty good amount of money if you want to be that fast. If you don’t really want to spend a lot of money at once (or at all), I suggest aiming for 15’s or maybe upper 14’s. You can probably supe up that engine to run those times and be streetable. Make a budget of what you can spend on your car then maybe everyone could evaluate it and give you a better idea of what to do.

Hello Felix,

Welcome to the boards. And to answer your questions:

When looking for prices, I suggest perusing through your local speed shops first. This will give you an idea of what is available in your area. I’ve had good luck (in the past) finding good prices for engines, performance parts, knowledgeable mechanics, etc. just by doing this. New/Used Acura shops are also a good place to find things like 1pc headlights, seats, engines, body parts, etc. If you plan on “building up” your engine, I highly recommend finding a local reputable performance mechanic…unless of course, you are confident that you can do the work yourself.

Please peruse through the Engine Hybrids, Forced Induction, and G2IC archive forums. Many members have given excellent feedback on what works, what doesn’t, etc. It will also help you decide whether to go Naturally-aspirated or Forced-Induced. As for horsepower figures, people that claim to run in the 13s seem to have engines that make 200hp plus. G2Guru is probably the fastest NA driven Teg in this club…please check his profile for details of his engine.

For your interior, buying used seats might be a better option than re-upholstering them. I’ve got quoted $3000 Canadian for just my seats to be re-upholstered. $5000 for leather. Again, new/used Acura junkyards are the best place to look for these.

The only problem (defective-wise) that we’ve been having with our B18A1 engines is the ignitor. Everything else depends on how well you maintain the engine. Overall, the B18A1 is very reliable and are open to quite a few modifications. You should also look at good quality axles if you plan to lower the car past 1.5 inches.

As for money and time. I remember G2Guru took 5 years to build his car the way it is now. The final product however, is quite phenomenal.

Good luck,

Oz

yeaaa

oz is just the man !!! lol… thanks for helping me out with that other post dude… i decided to take it easy on my engine till i get a swap or rebuild like u said… i want it to last and im young and dont got alot of money but i will have a body kit on it soon and gonna put up pics and become a member well later!!

OK, you want 13’s? wow…possible, but expensive. Start cheap, you may get tired of the car down the road and wish you didn’t put so much money into it. First: Fix whats broken (duh). Maybe do a complete engine rebuild before you start putting tons of money into it.

A) A great place to buy stuff is online stores (not ebay if you want 13’s)…just search for auto parts…or go to the Manufacturer Links Section from the drop down menu in g2ic

B) Get rid of the air box and resonator and spare tire and back seat, get some kind of cold air/ram air filter, Get new tires cus the stock ones suck, the header needs to go for two reasons: you’ll get smoother airflow and weight reduction with a performance one, get a header back exhaust and a test pipe (testpipe.com) in place of your cat, get a better ECU, upgrade your spark plugs and wires, get a short shifter…now if you still love your car…get to work on the internals of the engine. YOu get get most of this from the maufacturer links.

C.) I dunno, But the drop down list have the stock specs.

D.)Definantly Check Teg Tips and go to interior, this will help alot.

E) Touble areas are the distibutor, main fuel relay and timing belt…those are the most common on the messagge boards.

F) If you want 13’s you better spent alot of money. (turbo, intercooler, jet engine haha)

good luck
