A few of you know how I keep my car, absolutely pristine. A few years ago I left my windows cracked and some critter got in my car and decided to eat my leather wrapped steering wheel. Right away I tried to order a replacement from Delray Acura. They called me and said that they had been discontinued even though their site showed them available… So stressed out I bought a used replacement… or two! Neither was in good enough condition to install so I started looking for someone who could recover the wheel with leather. Eventually I found a guy in Ft. Lauderdale that specializes in recovering wheels in leather. I drop off the wheel and a spare so he could match the stitching.
The guy did a great job matching the texture and and almost great job matching color. The only problem is he did the wrong stitching. He used a machine that does a complex cross stitch. While it looked nice, it was not what I wanted but reluctantly had to install it.
So a few weeks ago I was ordering parts online again and saw the steering wheel as available $40.00 cheaper than I paid for the recover, so I rolled the dice and ordered it. Just got home from vacation and guess what was waiting for me? A brand new factory leather wrapped steering wheel P/N 78511-SK7-971ZA! The stock tag even said “vintage parts”
