92 DB2 GSR #1183 Rebuild

I acquired this DB2 this past weekend. I knew that they were rare. This one is in really bad shape with 237K miles. The pics on here now are not exactly how we found it, but not far from it. The guy I bought it from spun the #2 rod bearing. This was a result from running it hard from 4 to 5 Gs with a major oil leak and the original fuel filter @ ~230k miles. He never told me the whole story, or about this post: http://www.carolinahondas.com/tech-talk/84970-92-gsr-losing-power-around-4gs-5gs.html
If you follow that link, and scroll down he says he spun a rod bearing.

Everything on this car this car is used up. Everything under the car is junk except for the brakes. After 230k miles, I know that the cast-iron valve guides are junk as well. That means head rebuild. The B17A1 crank looks OK. If I want to keep it OE I will have to get the crank cleaned up, and get a new rod (you do not want to see the old one…I will post a pic of it later). Bearings, OS pistons, some machine work, new oil pump, some seals, and 300-500 later I would have a nice B17A1. My other option is the 94 JDM SiRII B16A P30 (automatic) short block w/50k miles. It is mint. If I rebuild the head, which is also a PR3/P30 casting, then I will have a somewhat legit B16A P30. However, I would still run the P61 intake, and P61 ecu. I have to check on the cams, as they show a little lack of oil wear.

My goal on this project is to restore this DB2 to like standards of my 93 GS, which is a decent econo-ride…35-38 mpg w/268k on the clock (93 GS is not all OE, but nicely equipped).

If the GSR YS1 is toasted, then I will rebuild it. This transmission is the other thing that makes it unique to this car, as it is more aggressive than an ITR box, only without LSD. Which I have one of those for it.

I will up date this post as the build progresses. If any of you guys have some DB2 parts laying around, let me know.

Check out the pics and let me know what you guys think. The pics are not complete. I will update with subsequent posts.

Thanks for looking and commenting!!!

Nice and all but there’s no point on posting 2 threads.http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?205882-1992-DB2-GSR-1139-Rebuild&p=2176707#post2176707
