Hey everyone, ive always kinda wanted to do a build thread so i figured what the hell, ill get started. Some parts have already been bought, updates wont be every day, and progress will generally be kinda slow. But whatever lol here goes nothing.
So heres what i started with, a completely bone stock 93 DA9 5-Sp pushing 245k miles.
Then these horrendous things happened (ride quality sucks ass, dont go with megan racing springs)…
…and ended up with this. not a bad stance imo
Powdercoated the valve cover, replaced the intake
removed the back seats (because ya know, racecar) tucked the carpet over the space. I have taken the carpet out completely and bed-linered it since.
I also learned to buy quality parts from a bad experience with Megan. Car looks like a good platform to start with.
upon removing the ac, i found what was left of the radiator. running hot was a bit of an understatement. I replaced it with a nice all aluminum radiator from Blackworks, dont have pics of it in yet unfortunately.
If you’re running springs, the Ground Control setup is awesome for our cars…
I’ve also really liked the Eibach Pro lowering springs.
Keep us updated with progress!
So i ended up getting a nasty valve tap and a ridiculous power loss due to some SNAFU with a valvecover gasket failing. so i got myself some nice JE forged pistons (81mm 9.8:1 comp) a B18A1 block (freshly honed, block guard, ARP main studs, and a billet girdle) and the oil pan, windage tray, sump etc to go with the block. The head is a B16 head (stock) with GSR cams from a 2000 Integra. The grand total? $700. Not too bad i dont think. The plans, if you havent gotten it yet, are to go LS-Vtec. On the way i have a B18 head slightly upgraded, freshly rebuilt. If the guy from ebay doesnt f*** me over, then the cams and appropriate hardware are going into the B18 head. Since i now only have $100 to last me the next two weeks and a girlfriend to tend to, the conversion kit will have to wait. Until then, please feel free to give me an input. This is the first car ive ever owned, and the first motor ive built on my own. Thanks guys!

yeah the car is very solid, couldnt be happier. unfortunately, at the time of buying the springs i was quite ignorant of such things and just went the cheapest way i could find.

Ive been looking at BLOX full coilover sets, i have a guy i can get them from at cost, like 450 or something i think he said. And thanks, ill do my best!
I would steer clear of blox. In my opinion that brand is only slightly better, if any, than Megan. I would just save a bit longer and go with a quality setup like Koni/ground control.
Good luck on the build though! Looks like a good start.

duly noted, the guy i get my parts from was gushing about them which is why i was looking at those. He also strongly pushed blackworks parts. i can say that the radiator i got from blackworks was great, and im very pleased with it. I will however start looking into koni and ground control. I assume you mean koni struts paired with ground control springs?
Blox has had good and poor reviews…enough to where I’d steer away from most of their parts.
Blackworks Racing has been getting pretty good reviews as of late.
But the Koni/GC setup has been a HUGE favorite among the DA crowd. While they are pricey, they really do ride awesome and the car sits awesome with them.

Yes, koni struts and eibach ground control coilovers.
That’s funny to hear he was pushing the blox and bwr products as both of those companies got their start on eBay just as Megan did. Not to say they’re garbage, just saying a lot less r&d goes into those products since they’re basically just China knockoffs of parts that are already available from other companies. Glad to hear you had good luck with the bwr radiator though.

hmmm thats interesting, i did not know that. ill have to look into the koni/gc setup. but damn…126 a shock? man lol thats pretty pricey
Some things are worth doing once, and doing them right the first time.
I spent $600’ish on a complete Skunk2 Pro-S setup… Four years later I’m ready to replace them with something better that I SHOULD have gotten in the first place.
doing them right the first time
oh trust me, i am no longer just looking for the cheapest way out on stuff. i have more than learned my lesson on those megan racing springs
by the way, i still need rod/crank for my motor. what kind do you guys reccomend? i was looking at some manley rods and possibly a forged crank. I feel like the forged crank would be a bit overkill, but ive heard that the manley rods have better machining/more exact tolerances in their design compared to eagle and other brands. Any thoughts?
Alright so its been forever since i last updated. My current motor’s mechanical integrity has been declining faster than i can put together a fully built one to drop in, so i picked up a complete LS long block freshly rebuilt with OEM type-r pistons with a friction coating, shot-peened and recon LS Rods w/arp rod bolts, Z10 Block girdle and ARP main and head studs (total cost, $350). So all i really need now is the LS-Vtec Kit (BWR kit, $165 w/Cometic Head Gasket), get my B16 headw/gsr cams checked/cleaned/milled and put it all together. Im shooting to have the motor in and going by mid-september. Hopefully ill have some pics to post soon, sorry about the late update!

Koni and Ground Control FTW. Don’t mess with blox etc for something as important as a suspension.
