Yo, I was wondering how fast a stock 92 GS 2-door can go.
I read somewhere that they should hit 210Km/h.
Mine goes about 170Km/h (106 Mph) and takes forever to get up to that speed. It might be able to go faster but I need a longer road. Is this normal, or could there be something wrong with mine?
The Cat was clogged so I gutted it. I know thats not the best, but it was sucking back gas and maxing out at 120Km/h. Much better now.
I also have removed the resonator, but it still has the stock filter.
It has 255,000 km on it. I know its old, but thats no reason why it isn’t still fast.
When I had the B18A (stock) I got it up to 140mph, took a while from 110mph. I look back on that now and realize it was a very stupid thing to do though.
In other words, yes your car should be able to go faster.
When was the last time you did a basic tune-up? Simple things can really slow you down like poor spark plugs/wires, distributor cap & rotor, fuel filter, air filter, timing…
If you’re not leaking or burning a ton of oil, then a tune-up should be able to restore your power quite a bit.
Also, your injectors could be kind of clogged too. You could try a couple bottles of injector cleaner. I’ve heard that they clog up the cat, but since yours is already gutted, I don’t think you need to worry about that
well, forever is an relative term. It doesn’t take that long to get to 170, and its only revving at about 5 grand. (not exactly sure about that though, amazing how hard you focus on the road at 170)
It drinks a little oil. not enough to be worth rebuilding the engine.
New fuel filter, prob should change the air filter. New wires, and the dristributor looks new. (Its a new car for me) the timing is good, I just think I need a longer flatter road.
I have a 1990 gs… the max speed it hit with the b18 (on i70 in kansas) was a hair over 130mph… it was pinned there was no way I could go faster… now I have a b16a making 188whp and I have the ls tranny in because I blew the one (j1 I think) that came with it… I can hit just about 100mph in 3rd gear… not sure how fast it will go now… I don’t go to fast top speed tho…
yeah, i’ve hit 133mph, 1990 ls auto, on I-10 between houston and san anton…i wanted to see how fast the viper and jag xkr were going when they were in my rear-view. i slowed waay down when the my police scanner went off, 5 minutes later, both cars were pulled over. by the way, the car didn’t shake or vibrate at all and the temp gauge never budged…in the summer. that ain’t bad. i know my car will stay in 3rd up to 100 mph now when some jackass in an 18-wheeler wouldn’t let me pass or get behind. for about 130 hp, that car can move pretty well.
