92 GSR New Guy from Jacksonville Florida

So Ive been browsing this site for a while, finally picked up a desktop computer, so I figured Id get into my project, and share with you all…I hope you enjoy!!

Picked up this 1992 GSR for $2k around 2 months ago, its my 3rd 92 GSR, lol…but the first one I deem worthy of fixing up, no messed up harnesses, OEM gsr tranny, solid body, decent interior, etc. It IS a project, though, and needs a good bit before I can really say its a solid daily.

Within the 1st month I had it, the coveted B17 blew a piston ring. Ehh, time to do the swap Ive been wanting to do anyway. Bought the B18c1 from a homie who flipped his hatch, RIP to that B17, and now I have a pretty potent base. I must say the B18 has a good bit more umph than the 1.7. Im daily driving it now, and its okay, but it needs axles, a new rear motor mount, new brakes, oh and a camber kit is first on my list, actually. My front tires are only lasting 3000 miles, and the inside is toast. ahhhhh good times.

So here is what is soon to come…hopefully.

  • Skunk 2 Camber kit
  • Innovative Steel replacement mount, 60a urethane
  • Axles (haven’t really decided where Im going with these)
  • Brakes (seen some good brake kits on ebay with 4 rotors, pads, SS brake lines, looks good but IDK)

— After these things are done, Id say it is 100% reliable. Then basically everything else is added how I see fit…
-----edit- I actually need to get either a skunk2 manifold, or an inline fuel filter for the gsr manifold, as I cant run an intake for now…Im kinda sketch about that, but so far so good, just staying off of dirtroads, etc.

***I will have pics up sometime today when the sun comes up!!!

Pictures as promised…finally got a chance to sit back down

nice platform…interior is gorgeous/minty

Did that thing get repainted or something? I didn’t think the GS-R came in torino red?

Thanks man…it doesn’t look as good in person as it does in the pics…needs carpet bad IMO, and the trunk basically needs to be redone…I need to clean the trunk carpet, and then dye it. Then I got to go to the Acura dealership and get all the misc pins and whatnot to hold the carpet on the backseat. I also want to get some particle board, and get it shaped to the trunk and covered in carpet. All the rear interior pieces need to come out, and get redone…I want to repaint them to get all the scratches, etc out of it, but I want it to look OEM. any suggestions??? On top of that I need to go to the Acura dealership and get all the misc screw/bolts that are missing from the rear. And that’s just the start.

Yeah it got repainted, one of the previous owners did it…it looks terrible…the jams and the bay are still Milano red, so it will go back to that color eventually.

Ah okay. I was like omg is that a 1 of a kind or something lol…

Man shame to hear that. Least it has the original doors/fenders/hood… my daily db2 is a theft recovery so it’s all piecemeal. The thieves stole the whole front body parts and left the motor imagine that. whatever though lol

Damn man that’s a shame. at least they didn’t get the motor, and the body parts are just that. Body parts. Most of us have parts from 8 different tegs on ours lol, don’t feel bad. As long as you get that factory paint job back on there you will be good to go!!

sounds almost like what i had to start w/…keep it simple and just make sure the engine is the first thing you take care of before any aesthetics

Engine runs strong and pulls hard…but I do think my ignition coil is going out. Rpms are jumpy and when it the Rpms go crazy it seems like its missing…and it only happens sometimes…as far as what happens first…I definately need to take care of my camber and get my suspension in check…I burned through a set of kumhos in 3000 miles…I def gotta get that taken care of…also my car actually does something else…sometimes it pulls to the right…sometimes to the left.and when it does this I notice when I just jerk it back straight the car rides straight after that …its weird. Any advice on this info I’ve given yall would be greatly appreciated…and also where would be the best place to get an ignition coil???

go to the dealership to get part numbers, then look online at places like acuraoemparts.com … I usually find the parts cheapest there or on fleabay as long as I have the honda part number. dealerships tend to ream ya $$$ wise. I just replaced all the clips for my window cowling & had no option but to go to the local dealership… all 6 clips set me back 90 bucks when I could have gotten them on line for about half that. ( unfortunately I couldn’t wait a week to get them shipped)

Save that B17 & rebuild it… t is a rare gem of a motor these days, & if it is just a blown ring maybe it is salvageable and worth it’s weight  Just saying…

Unfortuantely I had to sell it…fell on hard times and since it still ran…I got a premium for it though, I couldn’t resist…ill get it back eventually ill just have to pay a shit ton for it, my boy already rebuilt it…its in my old civic coupe…ill definately check those part numbers…I’ve actually had good experinces with dealerships though…they’ve price matched every oem part I’ve found online…just gotta get that rep. With them. As of today I need new ball joints for the DB2… This suspension is about to get overhauled…lol

just get you an alignment…that’ll save your tires…i ate through a brand new set of tires on my car in less than 1500 miles because i didnt get an alignment…smfh. that issue could be your o2 sensor as well…do you have a CEL?

No CEL…I want to get an alignment…but everything else I want to get first because the alignment means nothing if I’m having camber issues, and ball joints needing replaced, etc.

you keep eating up those tires you wont have money to get ‘everything else’ done because you’re going ot be replacing tires every 3k miles…put that at the top few things on your to do list of ASAP…get the alignment done, accumulate parts, get it all replaced at once, then get it done again later. BUT!!! just my take on it lol
