92 Integra RS - Bogs/Sputters/hesitates at 3000 RPMs

I am hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. My 92 Integra is running like crap. It starts and idles fine. But as soon as the rpms get over 3000 - 3500 it starts sputtering and has no power. It is really impossible to drive right now - because you literally have no power. We have changed all the plugs, wires, distributer cap, roter. It improved the way it runs a bit but really still running awful. Also I noticed when it takes off that it sometimes puts off a little white smoke from the exhaust and it smells like it is running a bit rich. Has some after market stuff on it but overall is stock. The owner before had a turbo on it but has been taken off. Is it worth fixing? Or should I just sell it?

Previously turbo’d? Is the car previously tuned with the turbocharger? Is the ecu stock or chipped, etc?

It was turbo’d? Then I’m assuming modifications were made to the fuel system. What is the fuel setup?

I honestly don’t know a whole lot about it’s history. The ECU is stock. And it was previously turbo’d because they took out the AC and put the battery in the trunk area. We removed the Idle air control valve and are cleaning it. It was really dirty and full of oil. Has after market cone shaped air filter - which could have contributed to the oil in the valve. Going to replace the TPS sensor and possibly the map sensor if I can find one reasonably priced enough.

I will take a pic of the fuel set up- it is hard to describe. I am pretty sure it has been modified.

does it redline at 3k, sounds like it could be your timming or mass air flow sensor, could be the ecu also. Try to barrow another from a buddy see if it goes away.

I see you checked ignition components, but I didnt see the ignitor unit in that list! I would say check the fuel system. if your running a stock ecu then the only only things left that I can think of. 1. would be a higher then neccisary fuel pressure or 2. after market injectors. both easy things to look at.

o2 sensor maybe? Often overlooked but can cause problems like your explaining. It did to me atleast. Replaced it and nothing since.

I’ve got a working stock map sensor out of a 92 ls that i could sell you, Check FS Thread
