92 integra shift linkage issues

how does one go about fixing this? new bolt? i banged 2nd gear yesterday and all my gears went fucky jacked the car up in found this

You could ghetto rig it back together but the smart decision would be to replace the shift linkage. That sorta damage is not normal and it looks like there’s more rust on other parts of the linkage indicating that even if you fix this part another part may break very soon. You should be able to find an affordably priced used one through online forums or a junkyard.

While you’re under the car I’d do a really good inspection, if the linkage is in that bad of condition I’d expect that other components may be in similar condition and should be fixed/replaced as preventative maintenance.

so to go about ghetto rigging this i could just throw a new bolt in there?

You’d have to modify it in order to put a bolt in it. The original design does not have a bolt in that location - that joint is not one that can be taken apart simply by unbolting it. Here are some pics to show how that joint is constructed - it is not meant to be disassembled or be serviceable.

What you’re talking about has been done before. In my quick google search for the above images I stumbled on a thread over at H-T that references a thread from this forum. The H-T user wasn’t terribly satisfied with the results. I’m all for ingenuity and being able to create your own solutions to problems but in this case I would recommend replacement. First of all because fixing this properly in a custom way would be quite a lot of work involving machining different materials and making some custom pieces. Second because if this portion is damaged then I would not trust the remaining shift linkage components. Simply replacing the entire linkage is going to be the best solution here - and it’s not like they’re expensive. Finding one local from craigslist or a forum would be cheapest, but ebay is another option that would require less searching.
